Escape From Ever After is definitely the MOST Paper Mario of the Paper Mario-likes. Also probably the best? The game's premise recognizes that much of what makes golden age Paper Mario funny is how it lovingly subverts what you think you know about the Mario world. Great game to kick off 2026. 4/5

All you need to know about Promise Mascot Agency is that it's a management sim card battler set in a Showa era town that you chaotically barrel through in your winged truck. The Yakuza influence is clear, but it would be insane to accuse this game of lacking originality. Bewildering and perfect.
