Saying Rowling is an advocate for tackling inequality is about as factual as saying Gary Lineker hates crisps, who does Kezia think she’s convincing??

Honestly the collective national level of disdain for Brits living in Dubai on all my social media platforms today really is bringing the UK together as one in a way that's hard to achieve in the modern era.

I wrote a thing about “dead cats” a while ago and concluded that people love saying this a) because they think it makes them sound sophisticated and street smart but also b) because they crave the feeling that there are people somewhere in control of what is going on, rather than simply chaos

Prime minister Keir Starmer is chairing a meeting of the UK government's Cobra emergency committee as Britain decides how to respond to the US-Israeli bombing of Iran, and Tehran's retaliation against bases in the Gulf.
A government spokesperson said:
I1 "Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and that is why we have continually supported efforts to reach a negotiated solution. Our immediate priority is the safety of UK nationals in the region and we will provide them with consular assistance, available 24/7.
"As part of our longstanding commitments to the security of our allies in the Middle East, we have a range of defensive capabilities in the region, which we have recently bolstered. We stand ready to protect our interests.
"We do not want to see further escalation into a wider regional conflict."

One of the very few compensations of living in an era dominated by clownish genocidal fascist monsters is that it makes everything very simple and easy to understand, and that’s exactly why Sensible Moderates are required to relentlessly bullshit the public about what’s happening.

Imperialist juggernaut wanting to make sure strategic resources are in its web, even if they are not immediately profitable, is not strange and people are right to not overthink it.

like sure it's not just oil; it's disciplining taking resources out of the market, but it's also sort of about oil

Heard similar on Radio 4 this morning. Was really, really odd. Talking about accusations of fraud involving Somalis.
Not sure what - at all - had to do with ICE shooting a woman did.
Felt like classic 'some say it's rainy outside, others say it's sunny' faux impartiality
• kevruth.bsky.social @kevruth... • 1h
Why's BBC R6 news explicitly highlighting ethnicity of local
Minneapolis councillor talking about woman shot by ICE? Can't see any reason his Somali heritage is relevant.
Same time repeats trump lies re 'self-defence' despite footage showing otherwise. Another eg

They always gave the position of the people in power, no matter how ludicrous it might have been, counterposed against people saying what’s actually happening. This just looks especially bad now, because the people in power are so very obviously malignant liars and fascists.

Palantir lands biggest ever UK defense deal The £240 million contract with the Ministry of Defence has renewed a debate about Britain’s dependence on American technology.

Yet another huge contract, awarded without any competitive bidding process, to Wes Streeting's favourite NHS supplier, the Hard Right US surveillance tech specialists Palantir, for military decision making capability.

It’s at least refreshing that they don’t bother to bullshit us about freedom and justice any more. Yes, we are getting rid of the Palestinians so we can build hotels on their land. Yes, we are collapsing this government so our companies can loot their resources. This is what it always was, mask off.

No more justifiable than, say, the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Wars of aggression are the type of thing we executed senior Nazis for, at the end of World War II, and we were IMO correct to do that.

There are no Buts here. Trump and his goons have been very open that they want to topple the government and take the country’s oil, and the leaders of the Venezuelan opposition do speeches saying they want the US to do that, and that they will help to expedite the process.
