Living in a wheelchair and with #disability means you should surround yourself with those capable of basic, and perhaps beyond basic, repair skills. We swapped a wheel in a hotel room last night.

What it’s like when you have an obvious physical #disability:
Going down the elevator it stops on another floor, door opens, lady who’s also going down gasps with a look of shock and horror as she turns and RUNS AWAY. 🤣

You are not able bodied, you are temporarily able bodied. What I’m doing isn’t just for “the cripples” but for the future you as well.

Sadly the military wouldn’t have me, I was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta. After taking the ASVAB I actually had to spend time convincing recruiters over the phone that I was disabled.

Personally I’ve been moving as far from benefits as possible and finding a better life. Our systems should do better to enable my path for more people finding more independence.

I don't have to worry about me or my chair getting hit by a heavy door every time I enter my room independently.

It's not immediately clear why this is the best accessible hotel room door I've come across.

The automatic closer catches when open and moves very slowly for the first twenty degrees of closing. Combined with the light weight needed to push it open, it’s not only easier but also safer.

Without the Endurance Power Wheelchair I wouldn’t be able to continue traveling and working with the various injuries that are prone to my condition. I would instead suffer for lack of living life.

Since Sunday I’ve been on the injured list, the roads got me. I’m still injured but improved enough to make my speaking gig at Arizona State University. Tenuously I will continue forth, resting when able.

The cracks in this sidewalk are minor compared to the bumps back home. With my back issues, each one sends pain through me... until I adjust my air suspension! Frailty is an aspect of physical disability, whether it's permanent or not. Our equipment needs to accommodate this reality. #Disability

My father once told me, his wheelchair using son, to hold my head up, put my shoulder forward, and take things one step at a time.

He was right.

If I leave you with anything from this post I hope it is a drive to solve your own problems for the sake of solving them for others. Our difficulties should not stop us, but rather inspire us to do the necessary work.

Luigi Mangione chose violence, I chose direct action. I can understand, like so many others, his choice but I refuse to condone his actions. Our choices in life matter, tenacity matters, and violence should have no part of this in today’s world.
