Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back to a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

IT SAVES PUBLIC MONEY to house people.

This is a free speech issue, unlike most of what Reform talks about. If you actually value free speech, this should concern you

I am at the point with the funding application where I really think I have a chance because of how cool it is. This is the fun/risky time

I continue to be mad at what they’re doing to IU though. They really seem to hate a lot of the things that made that place so special to me

It’s the same in the UK - well, less endless ideological assault and more getting nibbled to death by ducks. Everyone’s tired here too. Still, that’s what the therapy is for I guess

The First WORLD FENCING LEAGUE is happening April 25th!!! I'M GEEKING!!!

Japanese engineers developed this "Sword Tip Visualisation" tracking technology specifically for this event that will make it so much easier for the average person to see what's going on!

I MUST WATCH THIS ENTIRE TOURNAMENT

Prediction Markets: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)
Prediction Markets: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) YouTube video by LastWeekTonight

Here’s last night’s story about prediction markets – platforms where you can bet on basically anything, from the weather to the war in Iran. The story's also about why AI seems to be obsessed with shirtless old guys! To a lesser degree, but worth mentioning, if you’re into that. youtu.be/ZN4njIQcSR4

No amount of AI literacy can protect us because the problem isn’t knowledge, or how to use the system, it’s that the system exists in a culture that has been radically structured around white supremacy and patriarchy and your precious autocomplete incorporates it into its operations.

Anyone arguing that some flavor of AI literacy will protect women from AI deep fake porn is at best unserious and at worst desperate to protect their automated goon generator. This is prima facie not a literacy problem.

Like, AI literacy in any form will not protect black and disabled folks from the algorithmic bias, and the violence that emerges from it, of spicy autocomplete. Full stop. No amount of AI literacy can protect us in the deployment of the system because it is tracking the wrong problem.

So I am reflecting on AI as one does and I have come to realize that “learn to use AI” and “embrace AI” and “develop AI literacy” won’t fucking protect ua from existential and stochastic harms of AI, and my overlooking this as a vector for criticism is really something.

Star Trek The Next Generation scene. Young ensign Wesley Crusher (the boy) sits at a console on the bridge, but he's turned around like he's having a talk with safe and trustworthy adult who has walked up behind him. He looks sincere and earnest, as if it's a 'very special episode of Star Trek.' He's wearing his blue and blue and gold and red and blue again Wesley sweater, which is not a bad look, tbh. Closed caption reads, "drugs can make you feel good."

Remember Gibson’s basic point: “isn’t it great that the environment does so much work for perception and action, it means behaviour is possible!”

I mean, yeah. Binding, like many puzzles, only comes up because of unworkable theories of perception
