I'm honestly not well versed enough in Canadian economic import/export policymaking to even have an educated opinion - but I appreciated that he did, since I do share your allergy for all-doom-mongering, no-solutioning
All I can say is I literally meant literally in the literal sense, as opposed to the figurative one. I think gotchas in general are a very low form of discourse, and none were intended here.
So, grace and larger context notwithstanding, I took issue with the fact the criticism - which certainly seemed to pertain to this one specific piece of writing - seemed unfair and not holding grace towards *it*. That is all.
Cat, I am not a Doctorow fan and have no inherent bias for or against either of you. I thought your critique was very interesting- interesting enough to read the original post and do my own thinking. I was almost instantly met with a direct contradiction of what you'd written.
I am not mocking you, I was pointing out that the article specifically did the thing you called it out on not doing. I was doing so in specific and non inflammatory language. I don't know you, have nothing against you, and certainly have no need to mock strangers on the internet.
Which is totally fair of course, and I added my response which - equally valid - points out you're ignoring D's concrete ideas for strategic change and calls to action to make the case he isn't making any.
Broheim, no one is policing feelings and everyone is entitled to their own. It's *also* legitimate to call out a critique on willfully ignoring key points inherent what it criticizes. Either way, white knighting isn't adding any particular value here.
It's fine to not like the same things. I'm saying your criticism here is misplaced and untrue even at a surface level reading of the original post.
