I (in NZ) would say dungarees for those too. Overalls I think of like the kind mechanics or CSI workers use that cover the arms too

Kaituhi - Automatic te reo Māori, NZ English and Bilingual transcriptions Kaituhi is a web-based transcription tool that automaticallytranscribes te reo Māori and NZ English.

Also this one is great - designed by Te Hiku for reo and English including those who combine both

Are they taking the piss with the redactions here? This is ridiculous - they’ve included very few emails (not even the same number as were on the contributing group) and the ones they have included are almost entirely redacted.

The librarians at my library didn’t even know there was a limit to how many suggestions for purchase you could make through the app in one year until I came along. They were shocked! So they suggested I email suggestions instead.

So the minister recalls 6 phone calls (unspecified) and found 2 emails from principals and 1 from a board chair (received after the OIA request so wouldn’t have influenced what she said).
Hardly an overwhelming response in support of her removing the clause to give effect to te Tiriti!

This is one to follow - the ministry of education has admitted to using AI in the development of the social sciences curriculum and this person has asked to see what that looked like - chat logs prompts etc

Apparently migraines are a common perimenopause symptom, particularly if they’re in the luteal phase because progesterone drops then

Progesterone was what fixed it for me

It wasn’t in the Literacy & communications and maths strategy, it’s from the Common Practice Model document. Seems like a basic thing to get wrong! Does she not fact check??

Can you make an OIA request of an MP who isn’t a minister?

4 months ago 2 0 2 0

Will be following this one! Did you know you can create an account and follow a request to be emailed when there are updates? So handy!

Also good because the responses then become out in public too

Do you put them on fyi? I quite like the added accountability of it being publicly available right from first submitting the request. Would help with establishing patterns too

Bear in mind while reading they have mandated 1 hour a week to social sciences in years 0-8 and 3 hours in years 9 and 10. And also secondary school starts in year 9 so they have generalist teachers up to year 8.

Hey #SSchat folk - I'd love to hear your thoughts on the draft social sciences curriculum just released by the NZ Ministry of Education. You have to scroll down to file downloads then select SocialSciences-draft-Oct-2025.pdf.

His claim that our best ideas come from Western Civilisation is like claiming the objects in the British Museum are British.

A new Dawn by Emeli Sione could be good too

Mata Lulu by Lani Young would be great. It’s aimed at children so has simple language but layered stories.

What I’d say to you is I have no clue how you can be a better human than you think you are

NDAs preventing consultation on crucial education changes - teachers Teachers' unions say non-disclosure agreements are creating secrecy around crucial education changes.

"The National curriculum isn't a state secret..."

"When you prevent educational leaders, principals, teachers, anyone who is on these advisory groups from consulting with their communities, you're not protecting anything. You're undermining democratic participation."
