I enjoy / don't enjoy that they are responsible for zoo. Also they are the de facto parks department since Multnomah County gave up that responsibility decades ago!

It works where a City and County has aligned borders. But what do you do with Gresham and Trout Wood View? Or the rural parts like Sauvie Island and Corbett? Multnomah County is already the smallest County in the state. And it against the law w/o Leg approval to reduce the size further.

It is our metropolitan planning organization (MPO), which is a federally mandated and federally funded transportation policy-making organization. The voting citizens gave Metro extra duties by making it a Regional Government. So they are responsible for the regional urban planning too!
