Matt Damon playing a 14th century French knight that looks like a third baseman for the Phillies. Mullet. Beard. Smells like horse shit, pine tar, and cigarette smoke.

Matt Damon while playing Odysseus who also looks like a third baseman for the Phillies. Long, skinny beard. Smells like horseshit, pine tar, and perhaps Mediterranean herbs.

Matt Damon playing a 19th century cowboy that looks like a third baseman for the Phillies. Mustache. Shaggy hair. Smells like horse shit, pine tar, and definitely chewing tobacco.

Every time Matt Damon takes on a period role he ends up looking like a third baseman for the Phillies.

Sources close to Rakow inform me that, at the moment this photo was taken, Rakow was waiting for the perfect opportunity to steal Jack Nicholson's mustache.

I think it's a variant of Harry Truman's old line, "If you want to live like a Republican, you better vote like a Democrat."
They want to live like Democrats, even as they operate as Republicans.

Especially funny that they commissioned an essay criticizing FDR's domestic leadership from someone who wrote a whole-ass biography in praise of the presidency of Calvin fuckin' Coolidge, who basically built the Crash economy and then left Hoover holding the bag.
Never change, The Economist.

Fair! Though that does reinforce how genuinely, world-historically awful Trump is. He's terrible even within the context of other terrible leaders!

Agree, particularly in the "candidate of the lumpen proletariat class" sense.
But Napoleon III did have a genuine economic policy and did accomplish some projects of real value in the realm of domestic infrastructure (particularly in and around Paris, but also national rail).

This is fantastic. Huge lost opportunity that they didn't teach this in Hebrew school.

So, first of all, you've got me dead to rights on my shaky grasp of the details of the Sukkot liturgy.

Second — you're saying that the prayer for leaving a Sukkah is, at least in part, "Next year, this motherfucker gonna be made of WHALE!*"?
*but with scales, for kashrut

Replacing "Next year in Jerusalem" with "Next year in a whaleskin sukkah."

How are they doing in the Senate? Seems like they've focused more on Assembly — is that accurate, or am I just not paying enough attention?

His campaign has suddenly been spamming text messages like CRAZY.
And there's rumors that he's now the Bearstar Strategies candidate since Swalwell dropped out.

Oh God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”
Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”
God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin’ you better run”
Well Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”
God says, “Out on Highway 61”

With the exception of those who could have viably run for Senate and chose not to.

How does this compare to, say, 2024 or 2025 general elections?

OK, but please know that until it happens, we will be erecting a large "Days Without a David Nir Press Conference" counter in Times Square.

Why is Joe Sudbay filling in for @davidnir.com on The Downballot podcast and then filling in for @atrupar.com WITH David Nir on the Nir & Rupar?
This is all very suspicious, and the people demand answers!

I think her potential vulnerability is that Black primary voters have, historically, been very sensitive to the question of viability in the larger electorate. That was what Obama had to prove, and I think that Harris would need to do that as well. If Black voters are all she's got they won't stick.

Great question. Very interested in why you would dig out their bones and what you do with them, feels like there's probably a fascinating answer.
