A fight for due process is a fight for humanity. If you encourage malfeasance and lawlessness by the government, you are encouraging your own rights being undermined one day.
The ACLU will always fight back. So proud to be a part of this righteous organization. @aclu.org @aclunv.bsky.social

The court was right to block these removals. These individuals were in imminent danger of spending the rest of their lives in a brutal Salvadoran prison without ever having had any due process.
BREAKING: Early this morning in a 7-2 ruling, the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the deportation of any Venezuelan men held in the Bluebonnet Detention Center in northern Texas under the Alien Enemies Act.
We'll keep fighting to defend due process.
As the Trump administration tries to rapidly deport a Venezuelan man using an 18th century wartime law, a Nevada judge has temporarily blocked the action.

The Nevada Immigrant Coalition and community organizers are sounding the alarm about Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in Southern Nevada later this week.
The ACLU of Nevada has created a guide to ensure people know their rights and know how to take action when rights are violated.
This past Saturday, my team @aclunv and I were honored to receive the Junior League of Las Vegas’ Community Impact Award in front of a packed house.
In 2024, we participated in 115 community events in 365 days. Weve done more than 3 dozen KYR trainings in 75 days.
And we ain’t stoppin’!
The same day this $40m+ bill was introduced, the NV Dept of Corrections said it paid $60 MILLION in UNBUDGETED OVERTIME with more on the way. This relic-of-the-past bill in NV, which will likely experience budget cuts, would be a blank check for a bloated criminal legal system.

We are attempting to get more details on this. If this is based on students engaging in protected First Amendment activity as has been the case elsewhere, we will have significant follow-ups. @aclunv.bsky.social @aclu.org

This is a WILD #Nevada story. Today's IFC hearing revealed a $50 MILLION budget shortfall because of $60 MILLION DOLLARS IN OVERTIME for our overpopulated #corrections system. Per hearing and article, legislators weren't told but the Governor's office was aware?

I'd imagine there is a significant amount of litigation left here based on the decision but this is one to track for everyone in Nevada concerned about reproductive rights.
A long-dormant law requiring parental notification for minors’ abortions has been lifted. The court’s ruling comes in wake of the 2022 Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.
Here are the details:
Gov't surveillance is always problematic. As mentioned here, there are serious civil liberty concerns associated with this bill and there is no way to exercise real oversight over these surveillance programs.

BREAKING: We're suing President Trump for his unconstitutional executive order that would upend U.S. elections and jeopardize our voting rights.
The President doesn't have the authority to remake the rules for federal elections.

UPDATE: Hours after filing our amended petition, a federal judge ordered Rümeysa Öztürk can't be removed from the U.S. until further court order. The government must respond to the amended petition by Tuesday at 5pm.
This is a critical next step. We won’t stop until Rümeysa is free.
The arrest of Mahmoud Khalil strikes at the heart of the First Amendment.
Tell ICE to free Mahmoud NOW.
#EidKareem to all those observing. Jam packed back to back services today on my end here in #LasVegas.
BIZARRE to have spent the last few years being attacked online by the incoming US Attorney for #Nevada for standing up for the marginalized. She also said Nevada's AG @aarondfordnv.bsky.social should be "hanging from a crane."
We're not #Skadden though. We'll never bend the knee to a tyrant.
Idaho passed a bill allowing local law enforcement to act as federal immigration agents without any oversight, helping to facilitate President Trump's mass deportation agenda.
The ACLU of Idaho sued and a judge immediately blocked the law in court.
RUMEYSA OZTURK Country of Birth : Turkey Status : In ICE Custody State: LA Current Detention Facility: SOUTH LOUISIANA ICE PROCESSING CENTER

Modern day McCarthyism. Horrific.
Nobody should be disappeared from the streets of Somerville – or anywhere in America.
Everyone should be alarmed by the video of Rumesya Ozturk being handcuffed and taken away by agents. The government must immediately release her.

Having a lieutenant governor who is willing to exploit kids for his political purposes and who is a heartbeat away from the state's most powerful position is not fair, not right and not safe.
He is not a serious person but he is way too close to a serious position.
BREAKING: An appeals court rejected the Trump administration's request to overturn a court order blocking the use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport people without due process.
This is a win for immigrants' rights and the rule of law.
