Sister but it still feels pretty entrancing throughout. Fantastic album overall :) [2/2]

Very overdue FL for me
Can definitely see why a lot of people say this is the best Sonic Youth album, not sure if I necessarily agree just yet but I will say it’s filled with some immaculate guitar tones and riffs. Maybe gets slightly samey compared to Goo or even [1/2]
A nuke was dropped on the wallet but for this haul it was worth.
Finally getting into Squarepusher and figured this was a good spot to start.
Really enjoyed it! Very jazzy drill ‘n’ bass and IDM beats that make for a pretty chaotic and entertaining listen. Probably gonna check out the debut next! :)
Drums have never sounded so good.
This was fun! Very different from Tidal Memory Exo but equally as fun for me. Sounds like the craziest rave for a crowd of little critters. Album cover fits the music pretty accurately in that respect lmao
Really enjoyed it!
This was real nice, had a friend of mine talk about this album yesterday while we were in the recording studios on campus and it’s been an overdue FL for me so I gave it a shot today.
Very calming and serene experience, another fantastic post-rock album for me :)
Also worth mentioning that several moments on the album feel even more impactful knowing that he would pass away mere months after its release. A very unfortunate loss :(
Was thoroughly impressed with this overall. A few moments where Berman’s writing maybe didn’t feel quite as poetic as some of the earlier Silver Jews stuff but the vast majority is great and he honestly fits on this sort of production unusually well. Really enjoyed it :)
I’ve always been kinda off out by how odd this album cover is but I finally gave it a listen and it was a pretty fantastic listen :)
Great experimental rock and even somewhat post-rocky grooves all across its runtime. Gonna have to check out the Battles debut album soon
Got this at Siren Records :D
It keeps growing on me more and more each time. It’s an amazing project, easily one of my favorites this year no question. Seeing these guys live next month is gonna be insane
This was wild. Crazy combination of noise-rock, post-punk, funk, and electronica that sounds so fresh right now. Vocalist’s delivery may take a little getting used to and the album is very short at just 20 minutes but VERY promising kickoff point for future releases! :)
I haven’t even begun digging into yet. Will definitely have to sit with this one for a while but I will say overall feel very positive about it. Cameron killed it. Makes me unbelievably happy that he came out guns blazing for his solo debut. Wild stuff. [2/2]
This is such a WILDLY ambitious album that I can’t even remotely gather my thoughts on it with just my first listen.
It’s so different from the original run of singles and feels like the most wild theatre experience. Just so much to unpack even outside of the lyrics which [1/2]
There really wasn’t any way I wasn’t going to enjoy this
Madlib’s always been a favorite hip-hop producer of mine and this album is chock full of reasons why. Insane consistency, great sample usage, and an underground atmosphere that’s hard to get anywhere else. Loved it.
My personal favorite of Unwound’s 90’s output, feels like their most visceral album in a lot of ways and their songwriting is as tight as ever. One of my top Post-Hardcore picks :)
These guys are like if Kero Kero Bonito did sludgy, Hip-Hop inspired Noise Rock with crass humor…
And you know what I really like that, pretty exciting sound I should keep my eye on this band. Great EP.
I was pretty tired after my walk today and I ended up listening to this which was definitely an overdue FL for me.
Very gentle and soothing ambient album with nice dream pop elements. I do wish it experimented more with texture but otherwise this was very nice :)
Was real excited for this and it definitely lived up to expectations!
Doesn’t have the same punch that you’d expect from other house greats like Daft Punk or Justice, but that works so heavily in its favor in creating these really cerebral and detailed house soundscapes :)
The Roots once again massively impresses me. I think it’s time for a deeper dive into their discography. This was pretty close in quality to Things Fall Apart for me and that’s already one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time. Incredible stuff.
Really nice! Enjoyed this about the same as their last album, A Dream Is All We Know. Sticky harmonies, irresistible 60’s-70’s Beach Boys vibes but excellently expanded on, and the band’s got a great knack for tight song structures. Excited for their new album next month! :)
Had a pretty great time with this overall. Several moments that are even better than the best tracks off their first album.
Only issues for me rn are that the snare tone for most tracks feels muddy (to a point where I almost confuse it with the kick) and the closer’s just ok.
Very solid post-hardcore and emo album. I do kinda wish it was a bit more dynamic, as it does start to feel somewhat samey after a bit, but otherwise it’s got great, energetic songs with some really emotive vocals. Enjoyed it :)
Forgot to post about this when I actually listened to it but it was good! Hoping to get into more Sonic Youth this month and Sister seemed like a good jumping off point from Goo, which I enjoy equally as much I think. Either gonna do EVOL or Daydream Nation next we’ll see :)
Topster of my First Listens and Revisits for March!!!
Found some of my favorite albums that I've heard in a long time this month! Been getting into Converge more as well, really been enjoying their stuff so far :)
Bottom 4 are the albums I was the most underwhelmed by...
I feel like I wasn’t in the right mood for this to leave a stronger impact on me but from a writing and recording standpoint I honestly think it’s fantastic.
Pretty similar to what I’ve heard from David Berman just with less of an indie-rock influence on his instrumentals :)
Also the lead vocalist sounds SO MUCH like Moe Kazra from Prostitute I had to double check if it was the same person LMAO
This was really damn good honestly. Gothic Rock is a genre I haven’t had too much exposure to outside of some of the older Swans material and The Cure but I was thoroughly impressed with this.
Pretty unorthodox vocals that may be off-putting to some but I really enjoyed them :)
35 years of this MASTERPIECE I can’t believe it.
Still sounds so damn inventive today. 2 of some of my favorite songs of all time (Washer and Good Morning, Captain) on it as well. Absolute essential for everyone I’d say
