Some people with power tell us our society is broken. But we’ve seen for ourselves that this isn’t true.
We asked the public what gives them hope. And what action local leaders to prioritise.

This award to Sarah is richly deserved and recognises the incredible power of grassroots action to change the world.
Developers now have to take responsibility for the full climate impacts of their planet-wrecking projects. The win also resulted in the quashing of several other consents for fossil fuel projects in the UK, including a huge coal mine in Cumbria. And it is also making waves internationally.
Sarah Finch brought forward a historic legal challenge on behalf of Weald Action Group against oil drilling in Surrey. We were proud to intervene in support of the case.
It was one of the most significant legal breakthroughs this century in the fight against the climate crisis. shorturl.at/9aO9X
Orange background with a train travel snaking across it. Tuesday, 7th April 2026 We are officially Back on the Rails
Orange background with train tracks sneaking across and pins showing Birmingham New Street at the top then moving down the new stations: Moseley Village, Kings Heath, Pineapple Road, Kings Norton
Passenger services are about to begin at three stations across South Birmingham, closed since 1941. This is the result of a long campaign by residents of Moseley and Kings Heath, supported by Birmingham Friends of the Earth. The design has had a lot of input from local communities and they are keen to be involved in caring for their stations.
Yesterday 3 new stations opened to passenger trains for the first time since 1941. This is a result of decades of community campaigning, which we have supported at various points. So glad for those residents who can use the new services.
Fossil fuel companies are lining their pockets with the profits of climate breakdown and war. Imagine $30m/hr went into renewables and helping households with energy bills instead of corporate bank accounts... We need a strengthened windfall tax on big polluters

The government must drop its dangerous plans to limit protests simply because other protests have happened, or might happen, nearby - what's known as "cumulative impact". We believe the right to protest is a basic democratic freedom and must be protected.
We were joined by the cross-party MPs @kimjohnsonmp.bsky.social, @andymcdonaldmp.bsky.social and @sianberry.bsky.social to share our call.
We were at Downing Street yesterday to call on the government to scrap the anti-protest laws that put our freedoms at risk. Together with Palestine Solidarity Campaign UK over 40,000 of you signed the petition, so we sent them your message.

Some energy suppliers may be offering heavily discounted or free electricity this summer when there's more wind and solar power than the electricity grid needs. It's reported that this could be the first summer the grid runs entirely on zero-carbon electricity. 🙌 www.theguardian.com/environment/...
The students at Divine Mercy School in Manchester wanted to put solar panels on their school to help the environment. Their community made this idea a reality.🙌

Right now, major loopholes in the current ban on fracking mean communities are still facing the threat of drilling on their doorstep. It’s time to put it to bed for good.
Sign our petition for a legally binding fracking ban today: foe.uk/svdj8

Over half of our energy last year was generated right here in the UK – a success largely fuelled by renewables. That's not only great for the planet, but will help protect households from future energy price spikes and reduce bills. Here's to more British energy⚡

One of the UK’s leading geologists is warning that the earthquakes caused by low-volume fracking could be just as large and unpredictable as those that hit Lancashire in 2019.
Ministers must reassure communities by banning all forms of fracking now. www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/environ...
We’ve had enough of hate, division and climate denial. And those profiting as our communities are torn apart.

As the UK government clamps down on our right to protest and threatens the rights of people seeking asylum and refugees, we're joining @foeus.bsky.social and Friends of the Earth International to stand in solidarity with migrants and defend peaceful protest, in the US and around the world.
For a safe climate future, energy security and stable energy bills, we must switch from gas to renewables. Wars and conflicts won't change how much wind or sun the UK gets. Drilling for oil and gas in the North Sea is a distraction from the shift to clean energy. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Did you know that right now the UK Government is assessing approaches to strengthen 'responsible business conduct'?
This is a real opportunity to stop UK companies from polluting the oceans and exploiting workers in the UK and across our global supply chains.

Our chief executive, Asad Rehman, spoke at the half a million strong #Together Alliance march on Saturday, to make it clear that when we unite we are stronger than the hate, division and climate denial being spread by the far right. It's time to say yes to unity, hope, and building solidarity. 💚✊
Indigenous communities in Malaysia are being pushed from their ancestral lands – all so timber can be sold internationally, and there's a real risk it's entering the UK.

On Saturday we joined the #Together march in London, forming part of the biggest mobilisation in recent history against the far right.
Our campaigners and local action groups united with a reported 500,000 others to say no to hate, division and climate denial and yes to unity, hope, and solidarity.
Our chief executive, Asad Rehman, shared why Friends of the Earth was proud to be part of mobilising the largest number of people on London’s streets in recent history to celebrate what binds our diverse communities together and to reject the hatred of the far-right.

Systemic failures in Malaysia's ‘sustainable’ timber certification scheme means Indigenous people are being forced from their lands, are losing their livelihoods and are unable to access clean water and traditional food sources.
Head to the link in our bio to demand justice for people and planet.
We're proud to be here at the #Together march alongside tens of thousands of others to unite against hate, division and climate denial.
The far-right is trying to distract and divide us. But the fight for racial justice, climate justice, equal rights and for economic justice are one and the same. ✊
