Took me a second to see that it said "bins" and not "bangs"

We enjoyed our time there a few years ago!
Sending good vibes from the AZ desert.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Rich.
This was excellent.
Very frustrated by the ever-growing list of rules and administrative burden for EVERYTHING in academia.
Agreed.
WOW! Soil is where it's at!
Yes, I suspected the breakdown. But I hadn't heard of RED. This is exactly what I need! Thanks!
Is there a consensus for ANI differences associated with Order, Family, or Genus level divergence in bacteria? I'm looking at ~79% ANI between two genomes and am wondering where that falls.
good grief. I'm like that without headphones.
Curious: what's with the "no headphones" policy? What is the reason?
Ten thousand fists in the air because you have to redo this plate.
And if you have not been accepted, understand that this is a VERY weird time for grad admissions. Lack of acceptance may not be due to YOU, but due to uncontrollable factors at the university. Keep trying in the future.
Our group enjoyed this workshop last year, Highly recommend!
Access microbiology might be a good fit. When we published there last year, there was no cost because of some agreement with UofA. Perhaps MSU also has an agreement.
How do you make methane from phosphite? Through interspecies H2 transfer! Our paper on lithosyntrophy is finally published - read about how we resolved the metabolic interactions in this phosphite oxidizing, methanogenic enrichment culture! #phosphorus #methanogenesis www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
This looks really cool! Congrat's Heidi!
Pretty confident things like this (along with long hiring timelines, slower reimbursements, etc) will increase in frequency as universities continue reducing staff and "consolidating" due to budget cuts. Ask me how I know.
I don't know where you are but we are forecasted to hit 100 in Tucson within a week. That's about 30-40 days early.
proud to have you as a friend & colleague, MJ. Can't wait to hear all about it at our usual time & place!
Hard to quantify "how much worse." For us at UA, there is no longer "blubber" in the form of institutional support to support us in these times of famine. This means it's now ALL on us to support the students. Making it risky for departments to take on new admits without known funding.
I haven't seen many teaching interviews. But in my experience, well-structured and intentional interaction and discussion is a win. Using slido, etc.
It's not even March and the A/C is kicking on... ๐ฉ๐ฅต
Applications are open for PREP Bio at the University of Oregon! A great opportunity for postbacs looking for additional research experience while preparing for graduate school. More here: cas.uoregon.edu/UO-PREP-Bio
Exactly.
Bad news: it's gonna get worse if it hasn't already.
Interesting. It's a bit of a mind bender. How do we define E. coli "lifespan" in the lab? Given GASP phenotypes, etc...
I've been saying that for 15 years
