The snowbirds are getting infected and bringing it back up here.

I'll be sure to blow up Mr. Oliveira's voicemail.

And don't even get me started on older examples like Heinlein and L. Ron Hubbard. I just choose to pretend they don't exist because A: They were from a much earlier time period and B: Their work was kind of shit. Starship Troopers was a fun B movie but the books were boredom incarnate.

Why have so many of the most celebrated science fiction/fantasy authors of the past several decades turned out to be terrible people? Orson Scott Card is a raging homophobe, Michael Crichton was a climate change denier, JK Rowling is Queen TERF. As an avid reader, I dislike this trend.

We might be able to replace some of those stuck-up, useless sacks of rats if there wasn't a massive financial burden to even try. I can't even afford to stop working for 6-18 months, much less travel all over the western ⅓ of my state campaigning. Congress protects the rich because they ARE the rich

A sign saying "Warning! Dragon mating season." is about as effective as a sign saying "Free pizza ahead." It's a deterrent to people who don't like pizza, but to all normal people, it's just an advertisement to come get stuffed.

Well it took like 5 hours, but a surprising number of people actually moved over. Since I spent the majority of the time just moving slowly down my follow list, I didn't get much exposure. My wrist really hurts now though.

If you see me randomly following you, it's because I've decided (after several years of procrastinating) to put on the biohazard suit and deve back into Xitter to see if any more of the people I followed there have made the jump.

Some are Iraqi, some are Pakistani, some are from the various -istans, but all of them are frothing American chauvinists who are actively cheering on every fucked up thing this country is doing...including helping Israel, which broke my brain a little bit. Did I stumble into Bizarro World?

I swear to fuck I'm about to horseshoe theory myself into being anti-immigrant. Please, I'm begging, explain why all the natural-born American citizens I work with are against American hegemony, anti-war, anti-Zionist, anti-fascist, etc. but all the Middle Eastern immigrants are psycho nationalists.

I fucking HAAAAATE current youtube. Wanna search for a video? We'll give you 3 results that match your result followed by 25 increasingly unrelated things our algorithm THINKS you may be interested in, then 2 more actual results, then another 20 lines of slop. Repeat ad nauseam. It's terrible.

China invents process that turns desert sand into fertile soil in just 10 months China accelerates desert restoration: 3.5 billion-year-old microbes stabilize sand and protect ecosystems in months.

For some reason, the link just leads to Earth's homepage. Let's try again

Earth and Environmental News, Videos and Images At Earth.com, our goal is to provide the internet with a homepage for anything and everything about our planet Earth and the environment.

Not sure I like this. I mean one of the main causes of extinction is converting other biomes into farmland, and the desert is an ecosystem like any other. Food = good, Holocene extinction = bad. We don't need more arable land, we need better logistics. We can already produce enough food for all.

Sadly, it's not that simple. I've already been having to pick up overtime to make ends meet and try to pay off the tax bill that the killing of the ACA subsidies caused. If work is open, I really can't afford not to go. Them shuttering operations for the day would be my only legitimate excuse.

Even more fun for me, since both of the times I came closest to dying were driving in the snow. Once I lost control and wrapped my car around a tree, and the second time I nearly went off a bridge into the Connecticut River. Thankfully I "only" flipped my car and didn't drown. Anxiety isn't happy.

I love that my employer nearly an hour away is forcing everyone to drive out today despite the absolutely dismal conditions. It's very, VERY fucking important that we make that almond milk and juice cups. Lives and mild inconvenience is on the line for literally DOZENS of people.

I didn't know almond milk could turn into cottage cheese. I thought it lacked the necessary fats and milk solids. Today I learned a horrid little factoid that I never fucking wanted to know.

As if just handling this shit isn't gross enough, I have to jam my nose in and sniff it too. Thankfully they've exempted us from the "flavor" evaluation. Probably to avoid manslaughter charges and being dragged to the Hague for human rights violations.

If you zoom in on the dates on the caps, this is milk that was made in September and expired in November/December. It is pretty Foul. Not sure why tests are needed to count the mold/bacteria in this slop.

Snapshot of what I get to spend 8 hours looking at today. Everything finished early this week, nobody is here but me, and I am indescribably bored. Nothing to do but work on expired retain samples or leave early and forfeit pay. Fucking sigh.

It deeply, DEEPLY annoys me that I have to arrange to work nearly a full work day worth of overtime every week just to make ends meet. "Life?" What's that? Describe it and I'll tell you if I ever see one.

And no, that last one wasn't a joke. They were so thirsty for me, they called, sent an email, and texted me. As special as I feel that Dopey Don and his midwit menagerie really really trusted me to have a gun in their presence, I have better things to do than defend people from what they deserve.

I've gotten offers for jobs as a plumber (I'm not a plumber), construction worker (I'm disabled), nurse (not a nurse), farm hand (lolno), and literal fucking Secret Service agent (I have a strict no-boots diet, sorry). My resume is very clear about my qualifications, but they waste my time anyways.

I also have to keep my profile on all the job apps hidden, otherwise I'll get 20 of these a day:

(thick accent) "Hallo, I found your profile on *site* and I feel you would be a good match for *not a good match at all* located in *300 miles away.* Are you able to set up an interview?"

Searching for a job is such a toxic fucking mess nowadays. The vast, overwhelming majority of available positions are posted by staffing agencies that offer absolutely no benefits, it's difficult to even find positions because there are dozens of places they can be posted, and AI. Full stop.

Driving tip: If people have to slam on their brakes to avoid rear-ending you when you pull out, you are in the wrong, you are at fault for any accidents you're in, and you deserve any lawsuits/injuries/totaled cars your shitty driving gets you.

The list of things that annoy Val is long, varied, and inane. The key is to not let him know you're trying to annoy him, or he'll kill his irritation just out of spite.

I vaguely know that this is a meme that annoys people for some reason and nothing else about it.

Why do so many people not know how to spell "rogue?" Rogue is the class in WoW, DnD, and what Han Solo is a charming example of. "Rouge" is a color and that stuff femme-presenters smear on their cheeks. Face cheeks you pervs. I feel like I see the word misspelled more than I see it spelled correctly

Think you know a good Democratic politician? You are wrong. That person is either not good, or not really a Democrat. The fact that we have a first-past-the-plate, two-party system means people who would otherwise despise the Democrats are forced to join them in order to have a prayer of winning.
