E.g., ep2 of Young Sherlock, when Moriarty says twice to Sherlock, “we stand like greyhounds in the slips, straining upon the start.”

The second time he says it at the end of the episode, there’s a pause, and Sherlock picks up the next line of the Henry V monologue: “the game’s afoot.”

I love it when Guy Ritchie makes a Sherlock Holmes adaptation because there’s always this aesthetic of “I’ve done all the reading, and I’m going to blend in little winks to my audience.”

YOU DO and you’re in for a treat! There are some moments that I think don’t quite land but overall I think it’s a thoughtfully made adaptation.

Gurathin knelt beside an open maintenance floor panel next to the gate, tools scattered around, and Ratthi held a light for him. The panel was painted with an emergency feed marker label that in a selection of different languages read Manual Release. I didn’t even know they had those in ports. I’m a SecUnit, not an engineer.

Also, Murderbot’s Dr. Leonard H. McCoy moment in Exit Strategy forever delights me.

Doing one of my semi-annual Murderbot Diaries reads and midway though Exit Strategy, I’m once again marveling at how Apple TV’s MURDERBOT pulled forward a lot of the later (book) series threads and wove them into season 1’s arc. That’s an adaptation made with love.

Anytime! I usually use sherry (or a basic dry sake in a pinch) because my mirin options here are too sweet. It’s wild how wheat sneaks into so much stuff—I recently discovered a lot of furikake has wheat in it. (And also Haribo gummies?? why!)

Have you tried sweet potato noodles?

For anything breaded/fried, I usually pivot to Korean fried chicken recipes that use either cornstarch or potato starch in place of flour.
