Today, backyards are commonly fenced and used for hosting social gatherings, play areas for children, and hobbies like picking up dog poo. Front yards are usually more open, allowing neighbourhood rabbits and deer to eat your expensive flowering plants down to the nub.

David Sovka: Books and other reasons my house insurance is so pricey There are very good reasons for house insurance being so expensive, what with climate change, increased building costs, and the desire on the part of insurance companies to keep all the money.

A good read. www.timescolonist.com/opinion/davi...

Hahaha, sigh. I do the exact same thing, but I'm not sure why. My current fave: "Every week for the last four months your column makes me more and more angry..."

Hahaha, so true. But I am thankful that life lobs these little reality bombs our way. Without them we might become monsters.

Many thanks for the link, James. Again, I'm aghast at your experience. So much info, lots to think about. You're a terrific writer - clear and devastating at the same time.

Hello James. Thank you for taking the time to write and share a tiny part of your story. Your injuries sound terrible, and I'm so sorry you have to go through all that. Likewise sorry to hear ICBC has fallen far short in helping fix things. We're still early enough in all this to know very little.

Processed foods are made from unprocessed ingredients through baking, boiling, canning, folding, scolding and yelling. They contain salt, sugar and various oils produced through crushing seeds (canola oil), fruits (olive oil) and nuts (insert reference to Alberta’s sedition-adjacent premier here).

Unprocessed foods are the OG edible parts of plants, animals, algae and fungi. Examples include apples, eggs and dirty hippies from Salt Spring Island. These foods are just how God made them, without additives like salt and sugar to make them taste good.

I would list examples of ultra-processed foods, but given how widespread they are in the North American diet today, it is easier to list examples of non-ultra-processed foods: organic lettuce, Fred Rogers and Waterton International Peace Park.
