Unity + Bakery for lightmapping + Realtime CSG for blockouts
Posts by Heather Penn
wait sorry I just realized the bakery was set to 4k lightmaps and unity was set to 1k . But when I went to bake the unity maps at 4k it takes forever. Bakery bakes 4k maps faster than unity bakes 1k
bakery vs unity. Same texel density and ambient occlusion. The little shadows under the windows don't feel as crisp.
I actually forgot to set the ambient occlusion on the unity bake oops! And the texel density on the unity one is a little lower because I was impatient haha. So maybe they could get closer!
out of curiosity I tried the unity gpu mapper to recreate my settings in bakery and this is what I got. Pretty similar
hmm I don't know too much about unity's default lightmapper. I started using bakery years ago because the gpu baking felt faster, but I do think it has more options. They also have amazing shaders that do volumes and directional modes like SH (though this bake is simple no specular).

I would describe our game's gameplay as: the parts in Portal 2 in between test chambers and the parts in Half Life 2 and Mirror's Edge where no one is shooting at you.
Oh and last year it shifted from a linear game to a metroidvania.

Yep!
That’s the combo!

I don't know if this would help, but I have a custom script that makes the right click context menu in Maya a toggle instead of a hold and it doesn't eliminate my rsi issues, but it slows them down a bit
this is unity + bakery for the lightmapping
thanks! It's a first person movement game I'm currently working on. Hoping to announce it next year
