There’s information to be acquired, and social graces to be upheld, but how will our high society scoundrels handle the task presented to them?

hey remember when a bunch of middle-aged drunk korean lawmakers climbed the locked gates to the national assembly to hold an emergency session after the president gave illegal orders to the military, all of which ended with said president being sentenced to prison

Press Releases | Investors & Media Reimagining the future of healthcare through the power of gene therapy.

Looks like the FDA said no. Such low hanging fruit. This should have been an easy win for the administration.

Our month closes with our last whiteboard bet - Kevin.
While not quite horror, We Need To Talk About Kevin hit parameters, & takes place on Halloween! Tilda Swinton carries this movie, often as the only actor on screen. But Kevin truly is a monster. This was intense & deeply haunting.

Movie 34 is Dog Soldiers. I am so sorry I slept on this. I spent much of Covid watching Grey’s Anatomy & this movie hits harder when you know you’re seeing Owen Hunt’s origin as a combat medic.
Perfect use of lighting to get around a tighter budget. Great werewolf design, too.

I’m so glad I saved the better movies for the end. Snake Hotel really fatigued me.
Our “Hell Lord” bet is fulfilled by Late Night With the Devil. This was fine, I guess? A good idea that I think could have been executed a bit better. Still, well acted and written. Just didn’t land for me.

“Alien Beast” was tricky (especially since I’ve already seen the perfect-for-this-category Attack The Block) but I eventually landed on Life. Well written, expert acting, rad creature design. It’s got the type of ending where you KNOW if they ever do a sequel they’ll just wreck it.

Twins are checked off by Let Her Out, a movie that spent more than an hour cultivating a genuinely creepy narrative about a woman who may or may not have a leftover twin in her brain. Clearly low budget but made the VERY right choice to use all their money on the last ten minutes.

Movie 30??! Finding a Dolls movie was an easy choice as M3GAN has been on my list for a hot minute. Such a fun movie! Straightforward, well executed plot, with perfect moments of levity and humor. Like Short Circuit meets Chucky. Top notch.

The Gate *mostly* checked off our Demons bet. I say mostly only because the majority of the movie is baby Stephen Dorff doing zany kid tricks to fill in a backyard hole. There’s no demon until the end but the creature design was on point, especially for the year this was made.

"Reptilius" whiteboard bet is easily fulfilled with Reptilicus, Denmark's answer to Godzilla. Listen, this movie rocked. And there are two versions! Sort of! It's complicated! But what I learned is that I need to spend MUCH more time in the world of international monster movies.

Movie 27 is American Mary, checking off the Doctors bet. This movie has been following me since film school & I'm so glad I finally watched it. Feels like a perfect successor to Frankenhooker (though Mary never once tries to be camp). Great acting, makeup effects, & my friends worked on it!

Also I realize its November 1st now, but I promise I watched all of these in October!! I'm just slow to post because I enjoy going to bed early.

Ghosts bet is next! I have spent years thinking I'd seen The Haunting when it came out because why would I have not?? Somehow I hadn't, & once again Moviegeddon rights an old wrong. Such a great tentpole movie! I was missing a chunk of genre DNA that I now have an origin for.

Next up is Snake Hotel! Truly one of the worst movies that I've ever subjected myself to. On paper it sounds great - giant snakes, misplaced King Arthur lineage, a robot butler. And yet it made me yearn for the Frankenhookers gone by. Don't watch this one!
1 Hotel in the woods, barely.

Movie 24 is fulfilling "the Huron" white board bet which is a deeply problematic one! Rather than repeat that concept & imagery I watched Blood Quantum, a solid, well-shot zombie flick where those of Mi'kmaq population are immune to the disease but not to being torn to pieces.

Checking off the Bigfoot bet we have Abominable(2006). This flick is *very obviously* just Rear Window. Too much like it to not come off as an attempted remake, but with Bigfoot I guess, and emailing the cops when the phone is out.
4 Cabins that despite the name are just in the California woods.

The Lure is up next. What a beautifully executed movie! I went in blind (not a lot of mermaid based horror out there) & ended up being served a platter of incredible acting, editing, lighting, & music. It's Repo meets Splash in the best possible way. Best of the month, so far.

Movie 21 is The Clown At Midnight - This flick, with a parade of 90s "oh hey I know them" actors, proves a clown movie can't be taken seriously when the character named Walnut is NOT the clown.
Christopher Plummer tho!

Filling the "Dismemberment Goblins" portion of our program was Hobgoblin, a 1988 overacted fever dream of a film with the longest rake fight in cinema history.
Duration, not length.
Extra props to the actors trying so hard to fight a hand puppet with a straight face.
