Maggie wearing a dark blue coat standing next to 5 people, 4 of whom are wearing bright pink UCU beanies. They are holding the Dundee UCU banner. The Tower Building is in the background.
Glad to be able to pop by the @ducuuo.bsky.social picket line as they were just getting set up this morning.
Staff are on strike in the cold & damp to say NO to compulsory redundancies. Management must engage with staff properly: co-design a recovery plan, do not impose cuts!

‘Angry and exhausted’ Dundee University staff rally against jobs cut to save university
Campus unions organised the event where there was palpable anger at the current and former leadership of Dundee University.
We held a rally to mark one-year of the financial crisis at the University of Dundee.
We resolve to continue opposing compulsory lay-offs and a radical reshaping of the institution.
If we fight together we win!

NO REDUNDANCIES at the University of Dundee.
Fantastic news in our fight to save jobs, as interim Principal Prof Nigel Seaton confirms that there will be no redundancies. A massive victory for everyone who has supported us.
Looking forward to receiving the removal of Section 188 in writing.

The University of Dundee is currently trying to make 100% of female research Professors in the School of Science and Engineering redundant.
100% OF FEMALE RESEARCH PROFESSORS!
Only one female professor (teaching and scholarship) from that School will remain working on our UK campuses.

FACTCHECK: Almost all the headlines on Tony Blair / net-zero are *wildly* inaccurate
REALITY:
1️⃣Net-zero is *only way* to stop warming
2️⃣Blair calls for tech to "turbocharge our path to net-zero"
3️⃣He categorically *does not* say "net-zero is doomed to fail"

PFAS: The next asbestos?
In some of the Earth's most remote and inaccessible regions, there are traces of humankind.
PFAS, like asbestos, show why strong environmental policies matter. While Europe moves to ban harmful chemicals, pressure to weaken regulations remains.
Once pollution spreads, it’s too late to undo the damage. Prevention is the only real solution.

You told the Scottish Parliament a revised recovery plan would be ready in two weeks. Last night all staff received an email outlining the same plan.
More lies and broken promises.
Time is up. Get them out of the University now.

This letter to Douglas Ross is how staff find out which areas may face module reductions and that 700 people may be affected by the cuts!
Staff receive no communication, courtesy or respect from executives at the University of Dundee.

Twenty Lessons, read by John Lithgow
Key selections from On Tyranny, for viewing and sharing
Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

Pecksniff: Where has all the money gone?
In which Mr Pecksniff lays before his readers for their approval certain observations and speculations reflecting on the political life
"Britain is increasingly poverty-stricken. Nothing works. Many in full employment rely on food banks. Our buildings and infrastructure are crumbling. Our waterways are poisoned.
Yet, incredibly, we are the sixth largest economy in the world.
So: where has all the money gone?" 🤷♂️
