I'll be most interested to see how players engage with this setting, which will be hostile in the way suburban wealth can be to outsiders. Smiles, suspicion, judgement. Preying on the insecurities of the Latchkeys with surgical precision. And of course, the body horror of which there will be plenty.

Beyond my own experience in beauty informing the mystery, the biggest inspirations I've been drawing from have been the 1989 film Society, the series Desperate Housewives--which has arguably been mostly forgotten but was a cultural firestorm in the early aughts--and the reality show, The Swan.

The Beauty of Anillo de Oro centers on the mystery of what happened to a housewife who belonged to Deep Lake's gilded gated community, and the strange Avon-esque beauty representative who seems connected to the bizarre transformations taking place within.

Some lore: long before I got into writing and TTRPGs, I was a part of the beauty industry professionally--as an artist and at a corporate level. Marketing of beauty and skincare has a fascinating and downright predatory history that served as the impetus for writing this mystery.

I was scrolling through a C-beauty site and finding this image has compelled me to share some insight into one of the stretch goals that was unlocked: The Beauty of Anillo de Oro.
