If you want to learn more about why we decided to sync (all) tabs across windows, please read this post in our subreddit:

We are neither blind nor deaf and want to listen to your feedback. In a previous update, we added the option to sync only pinned tabs (and Essentials), which can be found in the settings under 'Tab Management.' This is the best compromise we can come up with.

Hey! I'm trying to be diplomatic about this, even though I can't change anything about your complaints, as they are already known to the team.
Zen is a highly 'Arc'-inspired, opinionated browser, meaning that even though we try to cooperate, everything you do in Zen follows a concept.

Thank you for the recommendation!

This might be not the best alternative, but we also posted the blogpost in our subreddit. If you want to check it out there, please do so.

Meanwhile, we have decided to not use Substack again. Thanks for making us aware of them being problematic.

We didn't know! Can you recommend any alternatives?

We are new to Substack so please tell us if something is off.

The concept behind Window Sync Move towards Space-based workflows

As promised: Our concept behind Window Sync.

Every important document should always have a copy so you have a backup if it's destroyed or gets lost. That's exactly what we did here. You're still able to use a different Space in a different window if you'd like different contents β€” and if the contents are not important, just use a blank window.

Goodbye πŸ‘‹
We wish you a lot of fun with your new choice! ^^

You don't organise your second window with different stuff just to lose it all after closing / restarting, do you? The whole idea behind window sync is for you to keep them. But for it to work you now need to use Spaces, which we also recommended before.

Oh! So I suppose your problem could easily be fixed by just swapping the hotkeys for both, 'New Window' and 'New Blank Window'. β€” No? Blank windows won't sync and lose all their tabs after closing.

Sad to see you go... Good luck with your new browser πŸ‘‹πŸ˜Š

As we will explain in the upcoming post, we want our users to use Spaces. There's still the ability to have entirely separate selections of tabs β€” you just have to switch the Space on one of your windows.

2 months ago 2 0 3 0

You would still have your windows A and B β€” but If you want them to have different content, then just switch the Space on one of the windows. No content gets lost.

You would want to keep them, wouldn't you? But in the mentioned scenario you would lose them. Our goal with window sync is to prevent this. Therefore we highly recommend using Spaces.

It technically already is a toggle, just hidden in the config. We are not recommending using that toggle, as it can be destructive.

People didn't lose their tabs because they accidentally closed their windows. If you have two windows, A and B, and you close window A because you want to close the whole browser, all tabs of window A get lost and window B becomes the main window.

Previously, users lost their tabs after closing windows. This is now fixed thanks to our implementation of syncing windows. We understand that it might be weird at first, but promise that it is worth it for the long-term. We'll add a follow up post in the coming days explaining the vision.

While it's sad, we have our reasons. Previously, users lost their tabs after closing windows. This is now fixed thanks to our implementation of syncing windows. We understand that it might be weird at first, but promise that it is worth it for the long-term.
