Yes, hello, is that God? Yeah, hi. I have a complaint. You gave me this brain that’s designed for finding berries and avoiding lions and now people are ‘just circling back’ to see if we can ‘move the needle’ on ‘key initiatives’? NONE of those things are berries.
Can’t argue with that
… and then you delete that sentence because it’s not really serving the story, actually
I know I buy too many books but I like to think that lining the walls of my house with them warns off evil in some deeply important way.
Note from my notebook (2017).
Had a fantastic time at Worldcon last week. Highlights were definitely the workshops I attended. I was looking forward to the LitRPG workshop, so that was great to attend, but the dark horse was definitely the SF Poetry workshop. I’ve never written a poem in my life, but it was super fun!

An image with the cover for The Traitor & The Wretch (drawn by Amy Phillips) with several little teasers and squiggly arrows. They read: "Minor villains dungeon-crawling their way to a happy ending." "On the run for an entire kingdom that wants them dead." ""enemies-to-lovers" "This guy helped raise a Chaos God to bring about the end times. (He's not coping well)" "This guy tried to kill the Prophesized Hero, (It ended badly)" and "Mutated cave creatures! Undead horrors! Endless, pitch black caves! Somehow, it's a romance!"
A quick primer of what to expect from this delightful little (370+ pages) romantic fantasy.💖

This is actually brilliant. Why have I not been doing this my entire adult life.
periodically we see a brand new food invention
usually it is clear that the inventor should be sent to The Hague, but on rare occasions we encounter one whose inventor should be immediately canonized for their contribution to humanity
this is such an invention
Oof

Manager: "What's this milestone 'Living on a prayer' ?"
Me: "That's the documentation deliverable."
Manager: "What's the status of that?"
Me: "We're halfway there"
Manager: "Why is progress so slow?"
Me: "You fired Tommy"
Manager: "So?"
Me: "Tommy used to work on the docs"

Your manuscript should be cohesive and make sense as a complete book
My Manuscript:
New York City votes for mayors like they believe Batman is real and want him to have someone to fight
I was hoping for an index card, perhaps with a curated selection of your favorite words. But the magnifying glass makes sense.
I am not, on the whole, a great lover of motivational quotes. But this, I like.
are you writing dessert books or nutritious books? (—and what about the probiotics, the rare toxins, the microplastics, the mercurial)
Write every day for 1 hour. If you miss a writing day add 1 hour to the next. It’s incredible! Tomorrow I’m writing for 7 years.
I’m basically always partly through a Leverage rewatch
1) it’s not too late to start making the thing you want to make. You are not behind, and you work will be better for your patience and setting other things right in your life early on.
2) making the thing—whatever it is—needs to be the reward in and of itself
Congrats! And also excited to read 👀
I understand that ChatGPT is down and fortunately this is not a problem for me as I have spent considerable time developing a local language model that I am able to run autonomously, fueled by Coke Zero and snacks
This is a fantastic book, and I think about it all the time.
Everyone saying "make weird art!" you better fucking mean it. There better not be an unspoken "but not too weird" tacked on at the end.
