I got a covid booster last week. No gate-keeping, just "have you had the vaccine, or covid, in the past two months?” I’d been prepared to point out that Massachusetts recommends a booster twice a year for _everybody_..

Ok. Hear me out. Butlerian Jihad.

Cons: Mentats are clearly a human rights violation.

Pros: Environmentally sustainable.

If you’re giving money to a white supremacist who put thousands of my colleagues out of work, decimated American science, and killed millions of people just so you can use a water-guzzling, misinformation-hawking racist chatbot the least I can do is make you embarrassed to admit it out loud.

When a flock of prey birds sees a hawk, they alert the rest. When a family of prairies dogs sees a coyote, they alert the rest. When a meerkat sees a snake, they alert the rest.

When humans see predators, we alert the rest.

No predator, no whistles.

It's now after 11 p.m. in Minnesota & what I said earlier still applies. Hey— this horrible day might be over soon, at least. There is that. (heavy sigh.)

Sending dental floss to strangers in Minneapolis won't fix things, but it might stop them from getting worse--dental care is often neglected. People asked for floss, and I have some money to spare.

Overheard: “William Henry Harrison had a better first 100 days, and he spent 70 of them dead.”

Address correction: I will be sitting shiva for my mother, Eve Kugler, tomorrow, Monday, at 6:00 at Havurat Shalom, _113_ College Ave., Somerville, MA. (I typo'ed the street address.) Gathering in the backyard starting at 6, the service will start when we have a minyan.

My mother, Eve Kugler, died unexpectedly last week. I got to London in time to see her, in the hospital. The funeral was on Thursday. My brother and I sat shiva Thursday night at Mom's flat, and I will also be sitting shiva Monday at 6:00 at Havurat Shalom, 133 College Ave., Somerville, MA.

Once in a while it's weaponized competence. I heard a story about the Nazis telling a Jew he needed lots of documents for an exit visa. Not very hopefully, he wrote to his home town, where someone did their official job and sent him all the paperwork.

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.

We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

ALSO.

While perusing videos of how people are shutting MAGA out of their lives and what reactions they're getting, I came across an interesting theory that explains both why MAGA are so confused that the rest of us are doing this, and why it's so upsetting to them.

They *need* leftists in their lives. 1/

Where ever you are it’s time to walk into the shrink’s office, sing him a bar of Alice’s restaurant and walk out.

I've been an activist and an organizer for almost 20 years.

In that time, I have *never* seen a space, system, or organization weakened or worsened by ensuring the inclusion of disabled folks.

Indeed, Boston Dyke March has been WONDERFULLY enriched by the presence of disabled comrades.

A photo of an ocellated turkey (Meleagris ocellata), native to the Yucatan. Similar in size and shape to North America's wild turkey, the ocellated turkey is showier and more colorful: blue skin on the head with an orange eye spot and round yellow protuberances called caruncles. The plumage is a geometric tapestry of iridescent greens, coppers, blues, turquoise, silver, and black. The wings are mainly green and copper lined with white-and-black striped feathers. The beginning of the tail is layered with blue and copper, fanning out into finely patterned gray, white, and black feathers.

Turkeys just hit different on the Yucatán Peninsula.

This is the ocellated turkey (Meleagris ocellata): a somewhat showier, strikingly blue-skinned, more obviously iridescent and baubled cousin of the familiar slate-and-copper wild turkey (M. gallopavo)

Thanks for letting me know, we were thinking of buying some stuff there soon, but not if it means crossing a picket line.

I hope them offering February appointment means they're not worried. My ophthalmologist's office once found me an appointment in two days, but that was for an existing patient. They also suggested the emergency room if I didn't want to wait even that long.
