I recently finished a 3-month project transcribing letters and documents for an IWM / DCMS project marking the 80th anniversary of VE / VJ Day.
It was a moving and fascinating project.
Here are some of my lessons from the Letters to Loved Ones archive and links to letters I think you should read.

I loved writing this article about art deco, transports and the interwar years. It brings together some of my real passions!
If you find this interesting then the exhibition at London Transport is definitely worth visiting, or join @artdecosocuk.bsky.social :-)

@artdecosocuk.bsky.social probably not one for pure vintage/art deco fans, but this is certainly very creative!
still unclear to me how the species made it this far
I raise you this dessert squashing cat by Haro (Haro Hodson) for a Christmas party for The Observer :-)

A contributor has had to withdraw from something I'm editing, late in the day. I'm looking for a sprightly 10,000 book historical words on the broad theme of 'consumers/consumption' and the period 1450-1650 (not necessarily all of it).
The next Art Deco Society UK online talk is on early home movies. Our expert is BFI curator Rosie Taylor and will include films from the period! Do join us!

My photo shows a fragment of an ancient Egyptian head of a woman sculpted from yellow jasper which has been highly polished to give a shine. The head fragment retains the chin and mouth area which has full lips. Height 13 cm. On display at the Met Museum in New York
‘Fragment of a Queen’s Face’
Timeless beauty from Ancient Egypt, c. 1390–1336 BC.
Yellow jasper exquisitely sculpted and polished to achieve a mirror-like surface. The identity of this royal woman is uncertain. The Met, photo by me.
