The league gains good will and recognition - what's the problem? If your complaint is about no NHL broadcast rights - then you are wrong. If your complaint is about "nothing to gain" - it's not your decision. Your decision is to either enjoy the hockey, or boycott watching.

Your opinion is valid. But I doubt that the players share it - they seem happy, proud even, to represent their respective countries in international sport.

In those years the NHL didn't release their players to go to the Olympics. This year the NHL did release the players. The NHL has no rights to the broadcasts of Olympic hockey.
