Spend the day at Okoboji when it hypothetically doesn't pan out

It's a parking lot where you eat Chick-fil-A while waiting for initiation
💯 Though I've seen some scenarios where RCV can result in suboptimal outcomes. As I recall instant runoff can improve it.
Tornadoes don't need a meso but they do need to be unambiguously continuous with inflow vorticity at the cloud base above. Gustnadoes are surface-based, outflow features only.
Viral photo from some years back of a man nonchalantly mowing his yard with a tornado on the horizon .
How it feels doing literally any task right now.
"Hope has two beautiful daughters; their names are Anger and Courage. Anger at the way things are, and Courage to see that they do not remain as they are."
One of my favourite quotes, attributed to St Augustine and embodied by @drkatemarine.bsky.social today.
Dose of reality
pair o' pliers and you're good! Just like the old microwave with the broken knob
"To the cloud" - done well - provides a rare opportunity to onboard modern infrastructure and practices that can greatly improve velocity and resilience. Hoping this will help operational infrastructure capacity especially during big weather events.
Excellent video document of a forgotten Nebraska beast, one of my favorite segments on Instability Released and (if you’re especially cultured) Extreme Instability IV. m.youtube.com/watch?v=ss82...
Here's the outlier you've all been waiting for.
It's currently 75F in Denver, CO at 11 PM MDT.
On March 21st.
Last night was much needed aurora therapy for me. I will never tire of seeing these magical lights

The #tornado pushed a full tanker truck into a pond along Loop 143 (see map). It then struck a pickup truck on the same highway I used as my escape route. I flashed my lights to warn the oncoming driver but the tornado behind me became shrouded in rain, rendering it nearly invisible.

Here's a closeup of the fireball. I could actually hear the thunderous WHOOSH as it erupted in flame after appearing to be struck by a large piece of debris from the #tornado

Cuba, perhaps best known for its lack of hurricanes...
kids these days don't even know
June 15, 2023: As many were just going about their day, this #tornado formed and immediately began to carve an EF3 damage path through Perryton, TX. After impacting residential and downtown areas, the tornado collapsed a radio tower and exploded a fuel storage tank as I rushed to escape

spec=documented, open source API. Personally I would just read the API
Asking LLMs how to engage with a particular API is 100% waste of time in my experience. Works better if you feed it the spec directly tho
Just in: UCAR has filed a lawsuit against NSF, the Commerce Dept, NOAA, and OMB to prevent the dismantling of NCAR, alleging "violations of the Constitution and the Administrative Procedure Act."
This is an incredible documentation of the systematic, intentional collapse of American health science, by Elizabeth Ginexi.

The Morrill Fire in Nebraska has killed 1 and consumed 549,000 acres with 0% containment. This is more than 10% of the entire area burned by U.S. wildfires in 2025, and makes it one of the 20 largest fires in U.S. history. Sunday forecast is grim: High Wind Warning, 25-35 mph winds, gusting to 50.
Do NOT call the NWS during warning operations with your radar interpretation and second guessing! They have many in-house eyes on the radars and are experts in interpretation and data artifacts. You are disrupting a workflow on which lives depend. This is important 👇
Example of lightning definitely not always striking the tallest thing
AGU submitted a response to the NSF regarding the proposed restructuring of NCAR.
For more than 60 years, NCAR has been a cornerstone of weather prediction, Earth system science and scientific training. We urge NSF to pursue transparent consultation and evidence-based reform.
