For more than a week, Amazon has managed to keep a death at its Troutdale, Oregon, facility out of public view.
Workers I spoke to are pissed.

"Over time and across fellowships, the high prevalence of winners from well-resourced, high-status institutions can understandably bring to mind Percy Bysshe Shelley’s adage that “the rich have become richer.”
Just confirming that Made by History will now be back up and running in the next few weeks with a new home and new partners at the Philadelphia Inquirer. Exciting! So, if you have pitches, now's the time to start sending them to madebyhistory@inquirer.com 🗃️ #MadebyHistory #HistoryMatters
What a handsome kitty! Hope you both feel better soon.

"Luddites" is a good term for those who oppose AI because the Luddites weren't against *all* technology, just forms of technology that they knew would pay workers less and turn out a shittier product
Things are way off today. I ate 2 ice cream sandwiches and a chocolate eclair ice cream bar and drank 2 martinis.
Yeah for fattening! Super cute, though.
They are all sooo TINY.

I joked on here not long ago that the robot made things up 1/3 of the time, and boy did the robot defenders get annoyed with me.
Per YouGov Rahm Emanuel is the 78th most popular Democrat, behind everyone from Michael Dukakis to Barney Frank. He is 12 places behind Harry Reid, who died five years ago. To the extent anything's happening here it's *entirely* media-driven. yougov.com/en-us/rating...
Literally this tho. Every time some pro-AI educators says we have to teach kids how to use this bc it's already out there, my response is that kids are doing underage drinking too and we aren't advocating for putting bar carts in the classroom.
Post from the head of the AFT: No matter how you feel about AI, its use is growing more widespread and it's important that educators understand how they could integrate it as a tool in their classrooms. Hear from three educators who have been experimenting with AI in this American Educator article ⬇️ http://aft.org/ae/spring2026/leonard_siebenmark_venagro
The opening sentence: "Whether you find AI exciting or frightening, its widespread use—including among students—means we all need to learn how to interact with it responsibly" is so obviously terrible on a pedagogical, political, psychological and basic human level. The @aft.org should be ashamed.
I use this photo in my classes when I lecture on Boston and busing in the 1970s. I didn't know about the collapsing fire escape photo. How terribly heartbreaking.
I just discovered an interview with my 11th grade history teacher done by the Yiddish Book Center. Here he talks about experiencing the Cuban Missile Crisis as a child. He is why I became a historian!
