Opinion: These protests weren't just about fuel. They exposed a deeper crisis in Ireland, a country that's not short on money but is short on results.

Huge result here - the idea that social platforms can be defective products that cause harm is going to send shockwaves through an industry that has claimed essentially blanket protection from liability by saying everything is speech
Most of us have no idea how throttled and controlled by Google our search results are. Great piece here on why, and how to make searches more about what you want, not what Google wants you to see. cardcatalogforlife.substack.com/p/google-has...

The question isn't whether people should wear high-viz/helmets. People should wear whatever makes them feel safer. Question is whether mandatory high-viz/helmets is good public policy - it's not
Protected lanes, safe junction design, more cyclists, and better driver behaviour are good public policy
🚂 DART 🚂
The DART cannot run between Lansdowne Road and Bray due to coastal flooding. See irishrail.ie for updates
For a Government, just purely from a pragmatic point of view, is it worth pissing off people like this vs trying to make Facebook commenters happy?
This is stupid
What a wildly stupid idea.
Mandatory helmets and high viz is a proven remedy to reduce the number of people cycling. It effectively kills off things like Dublin Bikes.
That's why no other EU country does anything like this. Pure madness.
Weather warnings updated with Dublin upgraded to Orange warning.

🚨🚨Given current situation and with the sharply deteriorating situation in #trumpland, I think it is unwise, imprudent and just a very bad idea for the EU to go ahead with plans to grant #US border authorities unprecedented access to Europeans’ data. 🧵

I'm totally pinching myself announcing this, but a film about my life journey rewilding a West Cork farm, An Irish Atlantic Rainforest, will get its first screening at the Dublin International Film Festival on Saturday the 28th of this month.
Tickets are available here:

And there we have it folks, having failed to do anything to halt the injury and death toll on our roads the government now plans to criminalise cycling.
This will kill bike share schemes around the country. @bleeperactive.bsky.social

Must also be a big question for Ireland, which also has all the same flood issues with some housing developments & towns/villages: 'devastating impacts are accelerating ... torrential winter rains are arriving 20 years earlier than climate models projected.'

i was actually shocked to see the numbers on new research from Global Energy Monitor on new gas projects in the US: nearly 100 gigawatts of power—enough to power tens of millions of homes—are currently in development explicitly to power data centers. At the end of 2023 that number was 4 gigawatts
And once again, a personal appeal if anyone knows a hay supplier in any county around Dublin/Wicklow, I’ve lost mine for the coming months (rain crisis) and only have about a 3,week supply left for a small equine herd 😳
I just lost my source of hay due to weather issues for my supplying farmer who cannot turn out his livestock-- if anyone knows of any farmer supplying good round and/or square bales in areas surrounding Dublin, ideally who delivers, please DM!
Major transport delays in Dublin.
The DART line between Malahide and Howth Junction is closed.
Northern Commuter services are also affected.
There's also a burst water main in Fairview so one of the major routes into the city centre is closed.

HARMONIE model continues to show up to 80mm on Wicklow mountains by 6pm Friday with up to 50mm falling in 24 hours. Over 30mm at lower levels in Southeast too. Sadly this will cause further flooding if it verifies.
