Vote-splitting in California’s crowded primary for governor could lock Democrats out of the general election.
As a result, Betty Yee & other Dems have faced intense pressure to drop out.
Ranked choice voting would let candidates run without splitting the vote.
Tomorrow, Virginians will vote on whether to suspend fair redistricting rules and let legislators draw a new congressional map.

#RankedChoiceVoting is simple. Just remember Shealia’s rule:
One in each column. One in each row.
Do not give the same ranking to more than one candidate.
Do not rank the same candidate more than once.
Pick your favorite first, then rank your backups in order.
That’s it.
Here’s the key thing to remember about #RankedChoiceVoting:
Rank your favorite first.
Rank your backup choices next.
If your first choice is in last place, your vote simply moves to your next choice.
That process repeats until a candidate wins with over 50%.
Last month, the Los Angeles Charter Review Commission recommended that the city adopt ranked choice voting for local elections.

Under party preferential voting, voters can choose whether to rank political parties or rank individual candidates.
This simplifies choice for voters by organizing their options through parties while maintaining an option for candidate-centered voting.
A new report by FairVote & @protectdemocracy.org shows how “party preferential voting” gives voters more choice and better representation.
Party preferential voting combines the benefits of two forms of proportional representation: List PR and proportional ranked choice voting. 🧵

With so many Dems running in California's top-two primary for governor, vote-splitting could mean none of them make it to the general election – even if most voters prefer Dems.
Ranked choice voting would ensure voters have meaningful choices in November.
"Pundits are parsing the Illinois primaries for a sense of where Dems stand headed into November. But several candidates won w/ as little as 24% of the vote.
That doesn't tell us what most Dems want," but ranked choice voting would.
