Making it do less shit in general is critical to fighting climate change

Fifteen minutes before the President announced he was pausing strikes on Iran, somebody moved $500 million in oil futures. Somebody knew. Somebody told them. Or somebody is them.

A circular pin-on badge that says: Don’t celebrate ‘88 Rock against racism. The image features a hand-painted shape of Uluru. The 88 refers to Australia’s bicentenary celebrations.
I just found this *sighs*…

ICYMI — new HUNGARY 🇭🇺 PM Magyar says Netanyahu will be arrested if he goes to Hungary
Agami Herons.
Yes, dragons are real. Hairy bush viper.
After France, Denmark is moving too: its Digitalisation Ministry plans to phase out Microsoft, switching to Linux and LibreOffice in the coming months. The goal is clear—reduce dependence on a handful of global tech giants and strengthen digital sovereignty.
In February 1777, General George Washington ordered the first mass immunization campaign in American history by mandating that his troops be inoculated against smallpox. He protected the Continental Army from an epidemic that was deadlier than British forces.

Are we meant to forgive SpaceX's destruction of LEO, astronomy, and the night sky for this?
The cycling parallel is
Day 1: holy cow it took only 20 minutes to cycle to work!
Day 7: what’s with this traffic!! It’s taking a whole 20 minutes to cycle to work!!
Day 1 with my new induction stove: Holy hell water boils almost immediately, what an incredible upgrade and marvel of science!!!
Day 7: What the hell is taking this stupid thing so long?
Thinking along those lines. The paste not a great option b/c i have no oven - i made damson plum paste in the microwave using quince paste recipe. Not great for large quantities tho.
Probably will preserve (not jam tho).

A large pile of rhubarb - long red stalks fading to green, and topped by the underside of large green leaves. They are in a pile on a merbau timber deck.
Two cardboard boxes of quinces - closest are the smaller Smyrna quinces and at the back the larger and yellower Champion quinces. Approx 20+ kilos in each box. Boxes are on a merbau timber deck.
Today I picked some rhubarb. To go with the quinces i picked last werk.
"Free Speech Absolutist"
As they used to say in the Soviet era:
"The Soviet Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, but it does not guarantee freedom after the speech."
Astonishing levels of hypocrisy from the "free speech" social network. Half of the content on X is more incendiary than this!
Ironically, this will only bring more visibility to Gil's work.

Are insider traders making millions from the Iran war?
The BBC has found a pattern of spikes in trades on financial markets ahead of public announcements by President Trump, including during the Iran war.
US elites decided, like a school of fish, that climate concern is old, boring, "woke," square, not hip & popular any more. As usual, it was based almost entirely on internal elite dynamics. It had nothing to do with the actual public, which is more concerned than ever.

A clip from The New York Times reads: "But only the entities that officially paid the tariffs are eligible to recover that money. That means that the fuller universe of people affected by Mr. Trump’s policies — including millions of Americans who paid higher prices for the products they bought — are not able to apply for direct relief. The extent to which consumers realize any gain hinges on whether businesses share the proceeds, something that few have publicly committed to do. Some have started to band together in class-action lawsuits in the hopes of receiving a payout."
The average American family paid $1,700 in tariffs last year, according to the bipartisan Congressional Joint Economic Committee. Few will ever see any of that money back. The refunds will go to companies, if doled out at all. What a joke.
“The Israeli strike happened at 3:30 in the morning. There was absolutely no reason, but Israel’s known for this. … They target civilians and, in some places, children. Here a woman with her daughter and son were killed. Imagine, they were sitting at home thinking they were safe”
Major alarm bells over this. Bessent wants US banks to require customers send in copies of their passports etc. to prove citizenship, which would be far beyond the know-your-customer checks that they're required to do already. Implies this could result in closing bank accounts over non-compliance.
Yes. I am pretty sure they are not selected for their intelligence or journalism skills. Just compliance in issuing the propaganda fed to them.
This is a joke, right? I spent a good year doing EV stories with The Guardian. Nine in ten cars in Norway are EVs. It's 2026 and we're being treated to stories that read like it's 2019 in a fossil fuel crisis. There is no mention of climate change. The reporter is impatient. That's all we get.
