A New Jersey data center will reportedly receive $77 million in tax breaks — while only creating one permanent job.
One job, in exchange for higher utility bills, noise pollution, and potential groundwater pollution.
Is it any wonder communities are organizing to stop data centers?

Maybe it's just me but I don't think Jeffrey Epstein's clients should be the ones to decide if Jeffrey Epstein's clients should be prosecuted.
Well, at least the BBC is covering this.
The Brits appear ready to shame the US news media into covering this, distracted as they are by gazing at their own navels ...
You may disagree, but if the heads of our military don’t trust Trump to be in the Situation Room because he’s erratic, unfit, or dangerous…HE SHOULD NOT BE PRESIDENT!
The White House is completely silent as BBC confirms a consistent pattern of massive financial spikes occurring just minutes before Donald Trump makes market moving announcements.
The administration is facing severe allegations of illegally profiteering off inside knowledge.

my angry post about this case this morning is now an angry article
Roy Anthony Scott was in a mental health crisis and called 911 asking for help
Cops came and killed him, & now the Court is casting doubt on whether the cops can be held accountable for his death

If you go back and watch a movie like All the Presidents's Men, it will really hit you how massively our country has changed in my lifetime. It was unthinkable for any of today's headlines to ever even exist back then.
A lot of you think it's always been this bad, but it hasn't. It really hasn't.
President Trump reportedly screamed at his aides for hours during the search and rescue operation for the downed F-35 fighter jet late last month.
As a result, Trump was removed by his own aides during peace talks "because they believed his impatience wouldn’t be helpful." trib.al/ZfOBZB3
The Atlantic released the following statement in response to Kash Patel's lawsuit over their article about his drunken behavior:
"We stand by our reporting on Kash Patel, and we will vigorously defend The Atlantic and our journalists against this meritless lawsuit."
I always tell my wife and kid where I’m going, and ask if there are any errands I can run while out. Just seems polite to me.
Finished plotting the #ttrpg Traveller session I will run this coming weekend. The crew of the Tally-Ho is in deep trouble … #Traveller #rpg This session will have a nice horror vibe.
My wife surprised me with a six-pack today. Haven’t had one of these in a long time! #beersky
I don’t pitch my own books on here much, but I hope an occasional self-promoting post won’t be too annoying.
Private investigator Ed Runyon seeks a runaway boy, and ends up becoming a target. Hard-boiled, rural Ohio style. 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚 #WritingCommunity
🚨BREAKING: The Department of Justice is demanding that Wayne County, Michigan turn over its ballots from the 2024 election to investigate voter fraud claims. Michigan’s attorney general and secretary of state have responded saying that’s not going to happen. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
I just watched a bald eagle chase a buzzard away from what probably was a road kill possum my neighbor tossed into a farm field. Tried video but the results suck.
I would not call her books super gruesome, but I have not read all of them. They are detective novels rod, though, so violence and murders happen.
I would recommend “A Is for Alibi,” by Sue Grafton. It’s the first in the series, and if you like it you’ll have many more books to chase down. 💙📚 #booksky
It's National Library Week. Find your joy in the library. Books are joy. #BookSky
I don’t think we talk nearly enough about the fact that corporations like Amazon, don’t pay a single cent to maintain the roads they use, the transportation system they use, the courts they use, they pay nothing for the infrastructure that is absolutely critical to their business.

Finished reading WHY BUDDHISM IS TRUE, by Robert Wright. Looks at Buddhist beliefs through the lens of psychological science. Interesting stuff. 💙📚 #booksky
I spent some time tonight plotting a Traveller RPG session I’ll be running next weekend. I love running TTRPGs. #ttrpg #traveller
I have had more than a few barrel-aged barleywines, and I have never once regretted it.
Haha 🤣
This topic comes up often on the AMICUS podcast hosted by @dahlialithwick.bsky.social. This court departs from norms in many, many ways.
Someone really ought to write a book about the significance of #SCOTUS doing so many major things through unsigned and unexplained rulings, and how so much of it really is a recent phenomenon.
Pay attention folks. This is how it's done. Trump sues his own DOJ, run by his private attorney, for $10 billion. Normally that would go through the courts with the DOJ arguing AGAINST giving Trump $10 billion.
Instead, his DOJ will negotiate a settlement OUTSIDE of court. Literally inside dealing.
I take off work, and my wife and daughter take me to dinner wherever I want to go, and work in one or two breweries as well.
