Please explain contemporary American life succinctly.

it's worth noting that the quote they went out of their way to make look stupid was expressing a reasonable point — a restatement of the long-standing official US policy in fact! — and the quote they clean up and sanitize is expressing a deranged threat of war crimes in an illegal conflict

Somehow, @politico.com pointing out that he’s threatening to commit war crimes is still sanewashing his post.

Trump next to the Japanese PM:

"Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Habour? You believe in surprise I think much more so than us."

I feel like it should be more widely unpopular that in the past year we’ve witnessed the creation of an American Stasi required to meet arrest quotas who utilize an AI technology created by a company run by a sweaty raisin of a billionaire who thinks Greta Thunberg is the antichrist.

Kaschuta describes the New Right as a sort of
"masculine cargo cult": Masculinity is in abeyance in the broader culture, but, the movement believes, if they all say the right things, adopt the right postures and politics, the manliness and status that are their birthright will return and life will be good again. Within this fantasy, Kaschuta says, misogyny has the structure of antisemitism.
Like the Jewish person, the modern woman is simultaneously wretched and all-powerful, feeble and defective and responsible for everything wrong in the world. "There is this feeling," she says, "that women are inferior and intellectually incapable, that they should be relegated to care work but, at the same time, that they have this horrible, total agency over the world and that they work in mysterious ways to warp the culture."

Reporter: Did the US bomb an elementary school and kill 175 people?

Trump: Based on what I’ve seen, it was done by Iran.

Reporter: Is that true Mr. Hegseth?

Hegseth: We’re investigating.

Trump: They are very inaccurate with their munitions. It was done by Iran.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
