The first refurbished jet should enter service in the coming weeks. Now the real test begins: how it actually feels in the air.
If you get a chance to fly this bird, you’ll have to let me know about the experience.
It’s roomy in the back too, with new crimson red seats in economy class.
There are new, sharp IFE screens, Type A and C chargers, and decent legroom throughout.
The new configuration sees a new cabin on Air India’s 787-8 fleet: premium economy.
Air India could not have been more proud to show off the refurbished aircraft, a milestone moment.
One of my favorite details: the feature lamps at each business class seat with Air India’s jaali-inspired pattern—subtle, but a clear nod to India’s architectural and cultural heritage.
This is Air India’s first retrofitted Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, VT-ANT—and it’s gearing up to carry paying passengers very soon.
Before the aircraft ferried back to Delhi, I got access to see the completed new interiors, a pretty big milestone in the carrier’s US$400 million widebody cabin overhaul.
At its money-making San Francisco hub, United Airlines realized it was losing valuable high-spend business class travelers to competitors because it was flying planes with too few premium seats.
So it installed 64(!) biz seats on a 787 to keep those fliers on United: www.sfgate.com/travel/artic...
United will also give the often derided CRJ-200 regional jet the CRJ-550 treatment by introducing first class, carry-on closets, and reducing overall seat count. Meet the CRJ-450 variant, which will operate some shorter, thinner routes from its Chicago & Denver hubs.
More details & renderings emerge from United’s giant leap into luxury flying, including specifications on the airline’s forthcoming Airbus 321neo premium transcon aircraft (the “Coastliner”) and its 321XLR new international single-aisle jet. hub.united.com/newsroom/?pr...
United Airlines has issued a waiver for all travel to/from Newark Airport through May 17 — nearly 2 weeks from now.
This is an acknowledgement that the issues at Newark are not going to get better quickly. Cancellations today today 75 departures, 76 arrivals and counting, per FlightAware.
SKY Leasing has acquired JetBlue’s venture capital arm, JetBlue Ventures, which since its 2016 inception invested in 55 early-stage aviation startups. Terms were undisclosed as JetBlue pivots to sharpen profitability and refocus on its core airline operations. - More on hype.aero
Love plane spotting while abroad. As much as an airline wonk as I am, I had to look these carriers up.
Screenshot of a post on Twitter: "Reposting this from someone who just sent it to me. Delta Air Lines flight from MSP to YYZ operated by Endeavor Air has just crashed in Toronto. Airport is reportedly closed. It is Endeavor 4819, CRJ-900 tail N932XJ. Praying for everyone onboard."

Welcome back to California, Philippine Mars.
Philippine Mars being towed away from shore
After modifying the departure time to 10 am (fog is a beast in the valley) and towing her to turn her, engines are on!

I covered military aviation for 9 years, and now the intersection of regulation and commercial for four.
Aviation is just the thing I do.
Flying's gotten safer — and less reported on. Washington crash shows how the aviation beat is fading apnews.com/article/avia...
NTSB Board Member J. Todd Inman just now on how the organization manages several investigations at once: "This is what we do, week in and week out. Just today a lot more people are paying attention to it."

“The President of the United States shattered decades’ worth of precedent… to avoid any overt interference or appearance of the same in active air safety investigations. That precedent has contributed to the overall safety of the aviation system both in the US and globally.”

Devastating evening. Prayers to those impacted by tonight’s tragedy in the Washington region.
May this never happen again.

The FAA has closed Washington's Reagan National Airport until at least 5am ET on Friday, Jan. 31.
Airlines will undoubtedly be issuing travel waivers to change flights shortly. #AA5342 #DCA nasstatus.faa.gov
Ah- missed that. Terrible nonetheless.
Three fatalities in 2013’s Asiana incident at SFO.
There have been just two U.S. airline fatalities since the 2009 Colgan crash. In 2018, the failure of an engine aboard a Southwest flight caused a passenger to be partially sucked out the window and in 2019 a PenAir turboprop experienced an overrun in AK causing a prop blade to impact the fuselage.
Statement via FAA: A PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided in midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan Washington National Airport around 9 p.m. local time. PSA was operating as Flight 5342 for American Airlines. It departed from Wichita, Kansas.
As lawsuits now challenge Trump's order to end birthright citizenship, the history of that right can be traced back to the 1890s here in San Francisco.
A cool shot today I got while on a gig in Novato. This is a SMART (Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit) train departing the Novato Hamilton station this afternoon. Shot on a DJI Air 3S on the 3x lens. Use without permission is prohibited. #sonoma #marin #transit #trains #commuter #bayarea
