But LLMs ARE genuinely interesting technology (as you've hit upon one facet of here) and legit research is happening. It just isn't in chat bots and art theft.

Real scientists are using and studying LLMs in real research. You're hearing a lot of 'AI is a useless scam only being pushed on us because Capitalism' and obviously there's a lot of truth to that, for us on the 'consumer' end.
