One of the funniest things about academia is that the same institution might have a 30-year humanities prof barely making $80k while a new professor in the finance department comes in at $210k. Some profs actually do make good money, but the vast majority do not at all.

Ok, you need a Scottish historian. We have a lot of those, too. If you email me via this link, I’ll help you find someone. www.st-andrews.ac.uk/history/peop...
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE TAGGING ME IN ON THE VATICAN / PENTAGON BEEF HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT
It sounds like something a postgrad or recent PhD mi be able to do f you. Do you know where the papers are from/what languages they are in?
See, I’ve always told students wanting to do IR or comp sci because it’s ‘relevant’ that they should do medieval history instead.
I'm thinking about all the people googling "Avignon papacy" or looking it up right at Wikipedia, and I love this for all of us.
It gives me hope.
Hi! Like David says, lots and lots of us at St Andrews. We have a whole department of just medieval history. A fair few at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. What do you need us for? I can point you in the right direction.
And that worked out so well, too
I think you're going to enjoy the transition between chaps. 13 and 14, too.
End of chapter 8: Unwed since the death of his first wife on the eve of the crusade, Philip sealed the alliance by marrying Cnut’s sister. In so doing, however, he made a serious mistake, perhaps the most serious mistake of his reign, one that would plunge both king and kingdom into a religious and legal imbroglio that took two decades to resolve. On 14 August 1193, Philip married Ingeborg of Denmark – and repudiated her the very next day. Chapter 9 heading: The Danish Witch
One reviewer cliche I find annoying is when a work of non-fiction is described as "reads like a novel". But this combination of cliffhanger chapter ending and new chapter heading is ace from @medievalrevolt.bsky.social in House of Lilies.
My last semester of full time teaching is an odd time to have a new course prep, but here we are. Just had some fun putting together a lecture on the Jacquerie.
@medievalrevolt.bsky.social thank you for your great work!
Glad to hear that it was helpful.
People are capable of such goodness.
Many bad things are happening in the world but this owl (?) getting fixed by this nice lady is not one of them.
Run it under the hot tap for a while, then twist with a tea towel
That was exactly what I thought too
Even the dumbest medieval king would have the sense to say "I must first take counsel with my advisers".

RIP to Jesse Jackson. His funeral is today. I wanted to share this clip from his appearance on Sesame Street in 1971. His important words ring just as true today as they did back then.
I, too, believe it's not extreme or radical to think that working hard should get you a nice life. 💚
Being female, in essence
Running the PhD programme in history at my university, this is my observation too. The PhD is maybe the only chance that they will get to do what matters to them. They don’t want to dilute that time.

It's a pretty striking contrast when a (former) prince gets arrested in the UK for stuff that's in the Epstein files, but still no one has been in the US. #NoKings
