An island chain with Very French Names.
Six of Marsh's fabulously and sinister character illustrations for GOLD TEETH. Eighteenth century hats and wigs abound.
Six non-player characters designed by Marsh Davies, each set within a picture frame reflecting their demeanour. Meet them on the high seas, and in low places in GOLD TEETH.
A port on an island where things are not going smoothly for the powers that be.
Hey, so we recently posted these extremely fine maps and character designs by @marshdavies.bsky.social in an update for our GOLD TEETH backers.
Might as well do the same here, because you can still pre-order: www.kickstarter.com/projects/149... Our pirate RPG book should absolutely not be missed!

I had my fun with Balatro. But actually there are more things in this world than playing the odds.

Leaving outcomes to chance creates an exciting narrative space, and assessing probability as a player is a stimulating challenge - but designing your whole game around gambling is both aesthetically and intellectually very boring imo.
Please stop making Balatros is what I'm saying.

I really enjoy writing in Ink, but last I looked there were meagre options for visualisation that weren't fully DIY from scratch - which is sadly beyond me, but certainly not yourself.

A topdown sketch, laying out a village surrounded by a stockade. Within, the village is divided into plots, each containing a building, coloured a rosy pink, while the vacant space around is patterned with swirling petals and leaves in faint green. From the Clements Library's collection of papers belonging to General Thomas Gage. https://clements.umich.edu/exhibit/geometry-of-war/case-14/
A lieutenant with improbable name of Perkins Magra made this drawing of Michilimackinac's fortifications in 1765. Nice enough, but look closer and you can see that Magra was moved to include beautiful little floral motifs in each plot of property within the village.

a watercolor, colored pencil, and acrylic illustration of a four-legged creature with bird-like front legs and lion-like back legs. The back half of the creature is blue, while the front half has blue, purple, and red scales or feathers. The creature’s face is a grinning sun, with green stars for pupils. It has a multi-pronged tail tipped with stars. It is surrounded by plants, insects, and a fish. The background is black

Traditional art done in marker and colored pencil. The picture is bright and colorful. It shows an orange striped cat climbing a branch of a tangerine tree, sniffing the tangerines growing on it. The picture has checker-flower patterns framing it on the top and bottom.

we've come up with a system where you can demonstrate growth to shareholders by hiring more people than you should, but also you can demonstrate growth by firing more people than you should. we call it the economy and we think it's going to be great

Hah, I had a similar feeling when I moved from a book about the War of the Roses to a history of the Romanov dynasty. They'll toss a few hundred thousand kulaks into the Moskva just because it's a Tuesday.

A picture of a hardback book on a washed blue background. The title is Next Level: Making Games That Make Themselves, by Mike Cook.
I've written a book! Next Level: Making Games That Make Themselves is the story of procedural generation - the tech behind games like Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress. It's about how it works, the games that use it, and the art and magic behind it.
Out May 7th, in bookshops: linktr.ee/next_level 🎲🔮

I'm a big fan of Cardamom, Everest Sherpa Kitchen and Casablanca. I second Frita Batidos, too. Also Broadway Cafe does a bulgogi hoagie which I am excited to try. Hope you enjoy!

I think we should go back to charging for the number of visible hands, like 18th-century portrait artists.
