The word "plagiarism" literally evokes the "kidnapping" of thoughts and ideas.
It's from the Latin plagiare "to kidnap" (or plagiarius "kidnapper"), from plaga "snare, hunting net."
A comic called Animals with Misleading Names. There's an electric eel labeled "not an eel". There's a mountain goat labeled "not a goat." There's a maned wolf labeled "not a wolf." There's a king cobra labeled "not a cobra. Also, snakes are typically self-governing." There's a peacock mantis shrimp labeled "Not a peacock. Not a mantis. Also, not a shrimp." There's a horny toad labeled "Not a toad. Only thinks of you as a friend." There's a mayfly labeled "active through the spring and summer." There's an eastern kingbird labeled "found in the west. Many birds do not recognize its authority."
Animals with misleading names. I'm seeing this go around as part of a viral tumblr thread so I thought I'd reshare it.
“Hey, I thought everybody knew that adding more lanes to address traffic congestion is like loosening your belt to address obesity.”

Cat on pillow in front of window
She wasn’t a kitten when we got her, so here’s a recent picture where I think she looks like the thumbnail of a “cats being silly” video.
In today’s instalment of “I won’t go to the ER unless I’m literally dying…” an Ottawa hospital is housing patients in the gymnasium due to overwhelming demand.
We need masks in healthcare. We need to stop pretending COVID is over. We need to push back on anti-vaxx rhetoric
This isn’t sustainable
Your child is not sick from lack of exposure to sickness. They do not have immunity debt. Your child born after lockdowns does not have intergenerational immunity debt. The immunity debt that your child’s mother never had was not passed on to them via her mitochondria…
Photo of Mikhail Baryshnikov from move on.org. Text reads Forty two years ago I left a country that built walls to come to a place without them. But today, as a citizen of the United States, for the first time, I'm hearing rhetoric that reminds me of the Soviet Union of my youth, where it was a crime, and continues to be, a crime to be different. 99 -Mikhail Baryshnikov

Yes, I was supposed to see it in 2020 - cancelled - and finally saw it about a year ago. Wonderful!
It was for the TOK exhibition. Students pick three “objects” to answer a question about knowledge. This student was answering a question about interactions with other knowers. #IB #TOK

No, you don’t. If I really can’t get into it or I’m not enjoying it, I skip it and still go to book club to see what others thought and socialize.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to justify your reading preferences and choices to anyone. Audiobooks count as reading. Also, you don't have to finish books you don't enjoy. Don't read to impress, read for yourself. Life's too short, love yourself, ok?

We are witnessing an exodus from the caring professions.
Educators. Nurses. Mental health providers. Family physicians.
Everywhere I look, I see stories of caring people who are so burned out that they can no longer continue to serve.
And this breaks my heart.
