Btw I think green OA is good (!!), it's just not apparent to me that the growth is because it's specifically green OA...

But I'm not sure many gold OA are only stored in 1 environment anymore. Pubmed and so many other repos often "repost" papers everywhere (OA or not). More policies requiring uni repos, lots of overlap among those who use repos for preprints and have institutional agreements (eg, UK, NL, etc).

Hmm..Why would this be the case if Google scholar offers both links? Maybe it's easier for LLMs to scrape OA repositories (and thus more suggested refs)? Also, are these comparing only OA repo vs only gold OA? I have so many measurement questions

Can a procedurally just letter reduce recidivism among prolific traffic offenders?

Amina op de Weegh, @nivette.bsky.social and I just published our evaluation study of a Dutch police intervention in the new journal Evidence Base.

Long paper short: to really put theories to the test, we should pay closer attention to causal assumptions and mechanisms before drawing conclusions (for vignettes and other designs). Randomisation does not solve everything!

New paper with @isabellevdv.bsky.social in Criminology! We test causal assumptions and mechs related to PJT using placebos and open text in a vignette. We show that interpreting vignettes is not so simple - assumptions were violated and ppl gave several reasons why they compiled (eg, fear)...

I don't see why it has to be one or the other. Preregs can help us evaluate studies to falsify and build stronger theory, and formalization/ strong theoretical work can help inform more severe theory testing using preregs. Again, one of many tools...

5 months ago 5 0 0 0

Feels a bit like a strawman though? I don't really know anyone who thinks prereg will solve all problems. It's one tool of many we can implement

5 months ago 6 0 2 0

Not saying it's perfect (definitely not haha), or that it's always necessary, and of course it can be a pain, but my view is why not use the tools we have to make things clearer when we can ๐Ÿ˜

5 months ago 2 0 0 0

Hm not sure about the ends-means justification made there. There were lots of advances without ethical boards, not sure we should scrap ethics. There are now many more researchers making much more incremental advances. Prereg is just 1 tool that can help us judge the reliability of those findings
