The Governor's announced pied-à-terre tax on second homes worth $5 million or more is a critical step in the right direction.
We know this would not have been possible without everyday New Yorkers and tireless advocates making their voices heard in Albany.
IN FULL: "For years, our caucus has been organizing to end the housing crisis and make our city a more equitable place to live. This year members advocated to state partners, submitted testimony at committees, and rallied alongside grassroots organizers in Albany to demand our state tax the rich.

The True Cost of Living report & Racial Equity Plan show the affordability crisis is a racial justice crisis.

While Trump is eroding civil liberties, NYC cannot expand police discretion over when and where people can speak and organize. Today I voted against two bills that would require the police to plan buffer zones where protest would be restricted outside of schools and houses of worship.
Today, we call on Mayor Mamdani to drop the legal strategy of his predecessor, and reach a resolution that delivers immediate benefit to those waiting in shelter, or facing imminent eviction from their homes. In a housing crisis, we cannot afford anything less.” 3/3
Our members led the charge to expand the program, passing Local Laws 99, 100, 101, and 102 and then overriding the veto of former Mayor Eric Adams. Since the override, an estimated 25,000 New Yorkers who could have benefited from the legislation have been evicted; that is unconscionable.
Council Progressives issue the following statement:
“This week, the Mayor appealed a court ruling that requires the city to expand access to CityFHEPS, a vital housing voucher program that is a lifeline for the most vulnerable New Yorkers. 1/3

ICYMI: I chaired last week’s Civil & Human Rights preliminary budget hearing.
The message was clear: the agencies responsible for protecting NYers from discrimination & advancing racial equity are being chronically underfunded, weakening enforcement when people need it most.
TBT to last week’s first-ever hearing of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood Education.
Early childhood providers - overwhelmingly women of color - are the backbone of this system. Yet too many are paid poverty wages & forced to work 2nd and 3rd jobs.
We have to stop paying women less to do more.
