I think a lot about the ābest practicesā of a digital portfolio for like, Lead Acquisition, vs complete compendiums of oneās work - the kinds of sites that I spent so much time pouring over as a kid lol. I ADORED (still do!) going through peopleās rough or exploratory stuff. But Iām not hiring ofc
i remember being 24 filling out one of those calculators for freelance rates that's like "start from your yearly expenses and work back to what your rate needs to be!" and being shocked at how low the resulting rate was. like girl rent is US$650 and dinner is white bread you are living in povertyyyy
ok rhiannon's 2nd amendment joke shouldve gotten WAY BIGGER of a laugh. pearls before swine queen
I had a call result from a (twitter) portfolio day post once! But it was also a pinned post and the call happened months later and also didnāt result in a contract lmao. All this stuff is cumulative anyway no one post is gonna make or break anything
Norman Rockwell painting "Freedom Of Speechā showing a guy standing up in a room full of people. he looks so very brave
normal rockwell is this guy's name
For reviews, go into it with some expectation of the kind of feedback you want. My first question is always "what are you aiming to get out of this folio (/specific piece)?" so I can tailor feedback to help you reach that goal.
Both types: curate for who you're showing to. I think lots of folio advice can make it seem like there's a One True Best Practice TM for your folio, but curating to purpose shows that that you have good awareness of your own work *and* the ability to select for what a client/reviewer needs to see
tfw "the president is threatening nuclear war in order to manipulate polymarket bets" feels like delusional optimistic cope
I voted for her! my anarchist boyfriend also voted for her! We live in *maryland*, our votes are basically symbolic, and we did it anyway. I wish libs/dems would just say what they mean, which is "stop whining about ongoing humanitarian atrocities" and "stop asking better of the party candidate"
I thought āaubergineā was just as made up as āchokatoā
Meme image of dr. Manhattan sitting on a rock in space, commonly paired with the line āI am tired of these people, I am tired of being caught in the tangle of their discourseā or similar
It would make me feel neutral trending weary
āIf we deny that such a thing is possible we invite it. When we think it through and talk about it we deter it.ā

Profile of user āthis user was blocked for this postā where the bio explains itās a bot that anonymously reposts the posts that get people blocked by other users
Well yea it says itās a bot in the account description, but itās ostensibly reposting things that real people said lol
Tape Roulette 31 is tonight!
These are the 30 tapes on tonight's wheel. I've been saving 2 Easter tapes just for this occasion, but I'm most excited for the sealed San Antonio history tape produced by a local TV station.
I'll be slangin' tapes on Twitch from 8pm-2am ET at:

Beginners might not miss those things. But Iām telling you by the time your rendering gets to pro level *you will need* the accumulated years of observation practice to keep pace. And I donāt mean like āobservational drawingā I mean noticing how the world works and looks.
their distilled knowledge of a life lived and artistic techniques from their forebears + contemporaries. Even āunintentionalā choices exist in a situational context for how they made it into the piece.
AI has none of this. Visuals stripped of context gives your brain nothing to eat so it atrophies.
a. the practice of how to do that, and b. your own mental library of how things actually look.
Similarly, other artists designed their pieces the way they did for a reason. Palette, composition, value structure, etc - every artist is engaging in a decision making exercise usingā¦
Real things look the way they do for logical reasons. Seams in clothes, wires on fences, patterns in architecture, etc etc all have lineage and purpose. Stepping a level of abstraction away from reality *before you even decide how to abstract your own piece* robs you ofā¦

also its sooooooooo expensiveeeeeeeeeeeee (me desperately trying to talk myself out of it)
LETS GOOOOOOOO
Once observed my mom watching the movie. During dance scenes she would get scandalized and say āoh! mercy!ā and fast forward. Then get bored of the dialog scenes because āI donāt know whatās happening or who any of these people areā and skip those too. She repeated this through the entire film
huge agree! there's overlap with "non-artist drawings" and "kids' drawings" but there's something special about grown-ups with fully formed decision making brains trying to translate that into a visual language. more to chew on there analysis wise
sometimes an extremely saturated low value color can do the job of black in terms of like, compositional weight and value contrast, without being a big motionless (and obviously Digital) void
4 swatches of "black" squares with different approaches/effects
Very situationally dependent on what approach is best, but I find you can lessen the punch of a huge black void by modulating in color, value, texture (or shape/breakup if you can get away with it!)
