Even if the low end estimate were split by the maximum proposed occupancy that’s $2,357 per person per month. At the high end it’s well over $4,000. Maybe we should just house people.

I spent the last few years working on the housing provision side, and am also curious about people losing housing due to overoccupancy or other issues that came from putting up relatives in town due to climate crisis.
I'm coming at it from the same work experience, and definitely see a casual nod toward this issue so am just very curious if there's more happening I'm not aware of. I'm meeting so people who just don't have the history with the city to know where and how to get various needs met.
I've been curious about this, and whether anybody is in the process of finding an answer.
This is wild
As a teenager, I had some conversations with Eadie at rallies and on the bus where I was really impressed by his willingness to acknowledge all the issues being real. Now, I realize real "leadership" doesn't look like comiseration, but action.
Ross Eadie's position invariably seems to be "its winnipeg, how could you expect it to not suck?"
Among the incomprehensible, he suggested he wouldnt reccomend anybody walk here. Like... "don't use the sidewalk and designated crossing places, they aren't safe but we won't fix it because other things are broken so it would be unfair to fix anything" seems to Eadie's position.
Lee valley sells a nut butter stirrer that has me intrigued, but that last thing my kitchen needs is more... things
It's also wild to be scared about going 50 miles into the wilderness, so the scary-bar is very low.
No details shared. 2nd death at pretrial jail in 6months.
"Manitoba Justice said it will not release more information about the man because of privacy reasons" you sure about that? You sure about that, that's why?
I increasingly feel like the only way to convince these people that the community is concerned about road safety is to vote them out of office.
Would he put his money where his mouth is? Is he volunteering as tribute to the reckless drivers that can safely drive into pedestrians?
Prove him right?
Browaty says anyone riding their bike to work in the winter isn’t rational or reasonable.
Really extraordinary fight between EPC and Rollins back there. Worth going back to watch.
So, in my mind, in an “iterative process” you’d open the damn thing and start saving lives, and iterate towards a more perfect solution as you go. Start with the minimum viable safe consumption site now, because every day matters to somebody, and put in the resources to adapt it quickly.

Janice Lukes stumped for Obby Khan after he targeted trans kids, and here she is calling for the execution of drug users.
I just read "berries makeup" on my notification screen and clicked fast
It's baffling. It's certainly a better use of resources than the other stuff they get up to, but it def shouldn't be anything related to law enforcement doing search and rescue. What if a lost person has a warrant? Or got lost during an irregular border crossing? We need approachable rescuers
I think that's rcmp search and rescue
Criminalizatiin aside, makes sense considering we know how many people can't provide ID at a clinic or for other services. Frankly, this can't and won't be evenly enforced if is at all. I won't be surprised if people are just asked if they are over 18 or something - at most.
Are they IDing people? Wildly misguided.
Hi-hat is a great name for those cymbals
Big day at Public Works, with nearly 60 delegations registered to speak to issues including the Wellington Cres bike safer street pilot and (finally) the safer speeds report
Exactly! Like, by taking an uber I'm contributing to the congestion that leads the next person to miss their connection to transfer 🔁
This week I have had to get an uber because my bus was late and I missed a transfer TWICE. It feels very silly to pay full fare and only get half way to work. I have so many coworkers that just opt to uber or cab as a default because busses are unreliable.
the party that wants to require ID to vote abruptly invalidating a thousand people’s IDs overnight seems like a pretty giant flashing red light
Also, many will argue that snow clearing, like Transit Plus, has gotten considerably worse since it much of it was outsourced. Snow clearing is a public service that impacts so many people. Maybe leaving these services up to the lowest bidder is a bad idea and we should bring them back in house.
