But I guess that’s where we differ. I’m actually happy to see them get out of their decades long rut, and move forward. The adversities they faced did make them more interesting, but overcoming them doesn’t take that away for me. Maybe it’s different because I’m not an RPer.

That’s why I cannot see any good reason the Blood Elves would continue to shun the Void Elves now that their well is no longer a vulnerable Achilles heel to both their people and the world at large. The argument can be made it takes away a lot of what made the Blood Elves interesting.

Yes, Blizzard has been incredibly inconsistent with in world logic in the story over the years. But I’m sure we all agree that a story where the characters do stuff that makes sense in response to the material conditions is better than not.

True, but doesn’t change how it really stands out when the story is written to make no sense. Which is why Shadowlands’ story is so universally hated. Shit just happened just to happen. I remember the Elune cinematic being a huge tipping point for a lot of people.

That still might be the case. I assume we will be chasing after Xal in the 12.2 patch. Where better than the same place she entered Aseroth’s leylines?

Honestly, I know this might get me hate, and I admit they did a lot of legwork to make it work story wise. But part of me wishes Harandar didn’t exist, and Quel’Danas was a full fledged questing zone, with endgame activities. Maybe they could have used that zone to flesh out the elf story more.

Is it disbanded? My takeaway was that they, and the Sunreavers still exist, and are still loyal to their respective factions. But that they will unite to the Silversun Compact when facing existential threats.

The likes of T&E and MrGM on the other hand, who tried to (poorly) defend Shadowlands, guilt trip players who quit, and either try FFXIV in bad faith, or just decided to troll the FFXIV community instead, showed their whole shill asses.

I feel like how Warcraft content creators handled Shadowlands, and/or a bunch of the community trying FFXIV during the Shadowlands drop off, is the ultimate litmus test for me. I respect the likes of Preach, and Bellular, who are in afraid to criticize Blizz when they deserve it.

Then when Blizz listened to the community and made mage tower available all the time. Who but Souls was at the front of the line applauding Blizzard for their pro-consumer move, that respected players time.
I wish I was making up how cartoonishly hypocritical that was.

Myself, and a few others responded with solid solutions to that supposed problem. Mine was adding more rewards to the prize pool to keep people interested. Someone brought up how it was disrespectful of players’ time. His responses to every single reply was snarky, and dismissive.

I had this wonderful Exhange with souls years ago when they were bringing back mage tower, and the community wanted it brought back full time and not just with Legion Timewalking. He defended Blizzard’s decision, saying “If people had access to it all the time, they’d get bored and stop playing.”

Those two however. You hit the nail on the head. They put all their eggs in the blizzard basket so they are financial incentivized to shill no matter what. How people trust them after shadowlands is beyond me.

Please don’t hate me. I actually like the overall elf story. I feel like it was done pretty messily, and rushed. But I’m fine with the elves evolving, and adapting with the material conditions. It makes them feel more real. That being said, there are legitimate criticisms that should not be ignored.

It’s really starting to seem like the RPers who hate the Elf story mostly just don’t want to change their OCs with the story. I say this as someone who does not RP with an outside looking in perspective. And like you said, they don’t have to.

This absolutely this. People cling to the Blood Elves of TBC that ended with the Sunwell being cleansed. It takes up a fraction of 1% of their history, but people ant it to be the defining aspect of their culture.

Like if the Dawnwell is no longer vulnerable to void corruption, why the fuck wouldn’t the Blood Elves be open to rekindling ties with the Void Elves during faction peace time? Whole families could be reunited again.
