Fun fact about #APartOfTheWorld

People of the Unified State speak a different dialect of English

For example, "We" means me and these people but NOT you, whereas "Wen" does include you.

Some say this was influenced by foreign languages. Others, that the thinking machines made it so.

I finished #APartOfTheWorld right when LLMs just started taking off

I created a world that reflects some of the dangers of over reliance on artificial intelligence, but mainly to show that we don't have to continue on this wire. There are better ways

It's made by a human, for humans ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿช

A Part Of The World

Dale and Camille struggle to adapt to a privacy-free world largely managed by thinking machines. They discover that making a living in a total transparency society is hard, but trying to hide something can be lethal.

The near-future isn't what you expected.

I was going to do that but the steam games I have almost all run on Linux either native or with their compat layer.

And I mostly play on PS5 these days anyway ๐Ÿค“

Why Zorin? Cuz I want to actually use my PC, not spend the entire time figuring out/fighting config. I'm very happy thus far ๐Ÿค“

2026 is the #year of #Linux on the desktop!

Well, for me at least. Wiped and formatted my old Win10 drive after migrating all my photos to a Raid 1 (I only had two identical drives), and finished configuring Zorin on Dec 31 arvo.

Is there a way to directly tell Mozilla to dump this new CEO and his brain-dead plan to add AI to Firefox?

If Firefox doesn't dominate, guaranteed it isn't because it was lacking that "feature"

At home we use it on everything: desktops, laptops, mobile...

I'll check out Zen, but it lacks mobile ๐Ÿ˜ข

Mission control says there's never been a mission to Jupiter's moons. Nobody's expected back.
I told them about Candice and the kids, but they say there's no astronaut by my name. No wife. No kids.
I'm not cleared to land but I have to; life support is about to fail.
We'll sort it out down there.

"Did you know that you don't need to have an opinion on something if you don't know enough about it?"

โžก๏ธBUTโฌ…๏ธ It is *also* fine chiming in on stuff outside your expertise. Engaging with new topics is a fun and valuable way to learn. You just need to be self-aware and recognise your "beginnerness".

Now, I get to troubleshoot uv, Django, Postgres and Docker and call it "having fun", which is why I wanted to palm it off to the machines in the first place.

The suggested extensions for Python and Docker refused to install.

`docker compose up --build` did the thing, but the server doesn't run.

Agy has no clue what I'm talking about. I hoped it would create a seamless install but this is the most annoying part so I'm not surprised. โคต๏ธ

Again it did a good job of setting up. Used uv and pre-commit as instructed, created Dockerfile and yaml, and configured Django.

It wanted to run off to code, but I said I wanted to run the default server first and that's where things got "interesting". โคต๏ธ

With that foundation I asked for a .gitignore file. On the first try it gave me a huge thing with lots of random exclusions.

I told it to refine it focusing on the stuff from the README, and it fixed it. So far so good!

Next was adding dependencies, which were uv, Django, Postgres and Docker โคต๏ธ

It did a decent job of explaining the differences between agy and VSCode w/speckit.

I don't like that it relies mostly on the README, but that's how they roll. I did add supplementary files like coding style and tech stack in a `docs` folder linked from there, and it used them. โคต๏ธ

The training was on VSCode+Copilot ecosystem. I have a subscription to Gemini because reasons, so so I downloaded Antigravity (henceforth agy for short).

First thing I asked for was a markdown tutorial on how to start a project. It should have a constitution and best practices โคต๏ธ

Recent #AI training at work spooked me into believing that I'll need to be proficient in it to hold on to a job.

With that in mind, I decided to code a web app with Google's #Antigravity : a short thread ๐Ÿงตโคต๏ธ

People keep sharing a post where someone asks "when a rich person dies, who inherits their senators?"

What a naive question!
They go to the highest bidder, of course ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ’ฐ

The rash wouldn't stop itching, but I was too embarrassed to talk to anyone about it. Until the skin broke, and those bloodied writhing filaments started poking out like sped-up footage of growing vines.

I drove to the hospital in a panic. It was too late.
They have them too.

People who "write" using #AI are no different from little kids at bedtime asking daddy to tell them a story.

And like little kids, they think they did something cool by asking ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I wanted to be lazy and give a thumb drive its own icon so, I gave AI an image I have.

After 12 minutes of frustration and "prompt engineering" all I got was garbage.

In less than five minutes I downloaded Transmission, Gimp 3, watched a video on alpha channels, and made the bloody thing myself ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿค–
