"We just have a creepy old fucking card in the White House, and you can get human rights relief if the victims are hot women."
Tim Miller and Sam Stein discuss Trump’s selective concern for human rights.
Here’s what I predicted on this site 28 days ago:
“Here’s my prediction: As he took credit for Obama’s economy, vets bill, etc, Trump will negotiate an Iran deal that mirrors Obama’s JCPOA—which Trump ripped up in 2018—and proclaim it *greatest* deal ever.”
And here’s WaPo headline yesterday:
Q: Iranian state media is openly mocking President Trump. What's your response?
LEAVITT: What they say publicly is much different than what they concede privately. You should take our word for it.

A Virginia judge temporarily halted the state’s newly approved congressional map — but state officials are already moving to try to overturn the ruling, setting up a rapid legal fight in the state’s Supreme Court. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
Screenshot of today’s evening AXIOS newsletter that reads: Florida House Republicans are waving the caution flag on using their state in a last-ditch effort to pull ahead of Democrats in the mid-cycle redistricting race. Why it matters: Speaker Mike Johnson told us he's "not worried at all" when asked if he's concerned about the GOP's Florida maps blowing up in the party's face. • But his Florida delegation isn't so sure. • "I like my lines," Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) told us. She's warning about slipping GOP support among Latinos. • "I do have some concerns about five," Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) told us, saying she's "very confident" they could squeeze two, maybe three seats from snap redistricting. • Florida lawmakers will start a delayed special session next week that includes a look at redistricting. But there's opposition in the state Legislature.

Reporter: What do you make of Republicans saying that Virginia—
AOC: Wah wah wah.
We have asked Republicans for 10 years to ban partisan gerrymandering. And for 10 years, Republicans have said no.
What they’re just mad at is that they have been accustomed to a Democratic Party that rolls over.
There seems to be a dispute on this.
Looking forward to stopping by @colbertlateshow.bsky.social one last time. Tune in tonight!
Wednesday's ruling was not Hurley's first attempt to stop the amendment. He issued similar rulings blocking the measure in January and again in February — and both times, the Virginia Supreme Court stepped in to allow the process to move forward while it considered the underlying legal questions.
See full statement from AG Jones below:
All votes from the special election are now invalid, and the state is permanently blocked from using or implementing the new maps, pending appeal.
BREAKING: A GOP-appointed Virginia judge has struck down the Democratic-backed redistricting amendment in full, ruling it unconstitutional and “void from the start.”
AG Jay Jones says he will immediately file an appeal.

Not sure if someone else has already pointed this out: the indictment against SPLC has multiple counts for false statements to a bank, 18 USC 1014. Theory explicitly stated in indictment is that certifications to open accounts were “false or misleading.”

Steve Bannon having a meltdown about the redistricting referendum passing in Virginia is giving me life.
"You've got them up there whining 'we're gonna lose the Senate.' You're damn right you're gonna lose the Senate...complete, total group of scumbags. Cornyn, Lindsey Graham, John Thune."
🤣
This is insane, tinpot authoritarian shit.

Trump initiated this arms race. trib.al/1kgPPR5
So by declaring the Virginia initiative “not good,” he inadvertently confirmed the actual Trump-GOP position: Republicans should be allowed to rig elections to maximum benefit, and Democrats should roll over and accept it.
