This is definitely a thing! There's a whole genre of YouTube videos of people reacting to the saddest anime (Dandadan, s1 e7; Grave of the Fireflies; Takopi's Original Sin; etc.).
My guess is that the appeal of these reaction videos is shared emotions, even if the emotions are negative.

By the way:
Don't watch Grave of the Fireflies - unless you relish being absolutely devastated.
I think you're on to something! There's a whole genre of YouTube videos of people reacting to the saddest anime (Dandadan, s1 e7; Grave of the Fireflies; Takopi's Original Sin; etc.).

Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism...
If gender is so natural, why does it require so much state, community, and family coercion to make it happen? You don't have to coerce anyone to drive language acquisition.
So I am not much persuaded by this talk of "intractable psychological dilemmas." Trump can, for example, continue to support Putin, even if doing so prevents victory against Iran. The solution simple: characterize the loss as a win - perhaps by lying about the JPCOA.
Yeah. Remember the Trumpists' successful strategy of pinning the withdrawal from Afghanistan on Biden. And this strategy is not just party politics; it reflects the President's malignant narcissism. Trump lies to everyone (including to himself) that his losses are really wins.
I hope Ukraine extracted a hefty price for their assistance to the struggling US!
Value judgements are forbidden?!
It really does sound like conservatism circa 1990.
And it is just as stupid as it was then. Egalitarianism is, centrally, a judgement about value - i.e., each person's wellbeing matters equally, each person's voice matters equally.
So: Congress will act only if the GOP no longer controls it.
The GOP, which controls Congress, will not act to stop these things. Why? Because the GOPers want things like this to happen. So: Congress, with its current majority, is worse than useless. It is, in fact, a co-conspirator in the Trump administration's crimes.
I am pretty dismayed to discover this. But: This is also a liberating realization. A Democratic president who understands the situation will be free to attack the GOP's power bases and impose progressive policies in ways that would have previously been thought to be illegal or norm-violating.
My knee-jerk centrist friends: "Ugh. Mamdani and Trump. If only the parties would rein-in extremists on both sides, then we could adopt bipartisan, common-sense solutions and fiscal conservatism. Drain the swamp!" [Later: votes for a fascist who thinks the 19th Amendment should be repealed.]
They'll be ten-thousand-aires!
I wonder why this is so. Why are Democratic politicians held to much, much higher standards than conservative politicians? Trump is free to be a rapist, but Sotomayor has to apologize for the mildly (and accurately!) criticizing conservative jurisprudence.
The double standards at work here are amazing. Trump is allowed to declare that his political opponents are scum and ought to be executed. Hillary Clinton tells the truth about a fraction of Trump voters and gets excoriated.
Science!
More evidence that men are just too emotional to be trusted with authority.
Meh. Why not? The GOP tried for years to repeal the ACA. It never much worked, but it did communicate to voters. Additional impeachments may well communicate where the Dems and the GOP stand w.r.t. bloodthirsty incompetence.
I love em–dashes!
Also: the schedule on which goods are delivered is less flexible for untrustworthy agents. Since the risks of non-compliance increase over time, the non-trustworthy agent cannot exploit advantages that come from scheduling compliance over longer time periods.
The expected utility of a bargain with a untrustworthy agent is less than the expected utility of the same bargain with a trustworthy agent. So: an untrustworthy agent must sacrifice a benefit that is proportional to their untrustworthiness in order to induce others to transact with them.
Many US conservatives love Putin. He seeks what they seek. Putin uses means that US conservatives wish they could get away with using. Putin is immune to considerations of justice - just as they are. If it were politically possible, they would join in Putin's assault on Ukraine.
It looks to me more like Jesus is getting a handie!
False! Scott made plenty of money from Medicaid fraud.
The GOP is mad at numbers, like they're mad at books.
Sure *I* have to work hard to fund Trump's corrupt agenda. But the silver lining is that thugs, grifters, and clowns get to enjoy their moment in the sun.
You don't have to think JD will invoke the 25th for it to be useful to talk it up. It increase the salience of Trump's unfitness. Also, since Vance etc. won't invoke the 25th, it further ties the GOP to Trump's unfitness.
Removing Trump raises the odds that his patronage network will fracture. At the very least, there would be a period of time during which the MAGA machine would be busy attempting to reconstitute itself. There are people who owe Trump favors, but aren't sure if they owe Vance favors, e.g.
Isn't the destruction of a navy a concrete effect? A navy is a concrete thing and its destruction consists of concrete changes, no?
