Good to see @imcmillan.bsky.social, talk about books old, new and delayed, shared reviews of one we'd both read. Talk about hopes for the future, and other things less certain.

My Sand Life, My Pebble Life is one of our biggest sellers since opening in 2019, more signed copies now here!

As someone who listens to a lot of music, the BBC Proms is something I try each year with varying degrees of success. The official 2026 guide is out today, lots of what you would expect including the return of the Black Dyke Band. Plus Miles Davis, Disney, prog rock.

The Wager and the Bear was one of my favourite books of 2025, very much looking forward to this.

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

Talked to Bradford fan about football in general, about that promotion game, how Shepherd was doing as he was on loan there last season. The "joys" of early kick-offs and TV. Having bought a book he was about to head to the ground

A late substitution, not at the game? Had a Bradford fan in earlier. Just read that Conor is leaving at end of the season, need another manager. Again.

This is the 20th anniversary of Indie Bookshop Week, and with many bookshops we are under small, individual ownership. In our case a family-owned store, the photo is me and my co-owner and mother, our store was her retirement dream.

Quick snap - signed copies of Sophie MacKintosh new novel, Permanence. Two lovers in an illicit affair find themselves in the city of Impermanence, a self-contained reality with no access to the real world.

How do you know when you've found true love? How much would you sacrifice to keep it?

Anyone nearby to us or a bit further north, go see @ofalafel.bsky.social in Leeds! Or anywhere else, places Olaf is going to that is, but particularly Leeds! He is indeed a 'very funny plonker'.

*sigh*
If your Kickstarter video/image is AI, I won't back it.
If your book has an AI cover, I won't read it.
If you're a public supporter of AI use for creative work, I will unfollow you.
I cannot stress enough how offensive I find AI use in the arts. It is outright theft, it is lazy, it is gross.

I saw @kjsoar.bsky.social post about this yesterday, and @bengazur.bsky.social and one or two others involved. An excellent addition to our shelves.

At the start of every week without fail, the biggest stack of restock arrival books is for our SFF/Horror/Graphics area, to replace w/end sales.

Here is a recent photo in our genre focus shots, mainly of Manga with other graphic novels in view, and ever-changing and updating selection.
