I had a pretty positive Yugioh experience with the final title on the GBA, but your point applies to a lot of them for sure.
It’s National Library Week, so support your fucking libraries people. Use them, fight for their funding, fight for your librarians. Don’t let your most reliable third space go to waste.
And yes, I know MTGO and Arena exist but as online-only experiences with cardpools subject to consumer scarcity models I don’t consider them in discussions of play experience preservation.
Shandalar is the closest experience to playing Magic I can fine, which has plenty of fun as well as fan mods! But it’s more of a Magic Roguelike/Nuzlocke because of Ante and how lifetotals work than playing traditional constructed 20-life Magic (still a fun game)
The same COULD be said about Duels of The Planeswalkers but not only is it unlisted but I’ve been told the titles broke in patches that cause the computers to only play basic lands (but since these titles are unlisted that’s hard to validate until proper emulation options exist for their platforms).
The same can be said about the Magic The Gathering Dreamcast game, although it is only available in Japanese. I unsuccessfully tried to manage an English patch for it and heard rumblings about one existing but haven’t found it.
