The real reason I've taken up boxing is so I can personally take out every single dickwad who doesn't use headphones on public transit

Mystery Caloplaca on branches of a dead shrub (cf. Sarcobatus vermiculatus) from southern Alberta. Maybe just C. pyracea? No lower cortex. The immersed apothecia are so distinctive and don't look like anything else I collected, except maybe C. saxicola. #prairielichens

I followed this Rusaviska elegans #lichen for 1 year and 1 month, taking regular photos (with my cellphone).

This is the preliminary result:

Tips of different pins (cheap dissection pin with coarse finish and bent tip, fixing pin (sewing supplies) with slightly better finish and blunt tip, larger acupuncture needle, smaller acupuncture needle both with polished finish and sharp tip even after weeks of use.
Small squares are 1mm.

Another technical post: My favorite instrument of the day is the acupuncture needle - perfect for picking up fine sections of lichen and manipulating them on the slide.

Dissection pins are mostly useless, fixing pins (for texiles) are too short for me. The larger acupuncture needles are perfect!
