The RB-79 Ball is a civilian mobile suit fitted for battle, reinforced with heavier armor and equipped with a 180mm cannon for most cases. It's thrusters used "solid" fuel instead of normal liquid fuel, essentially, little explosions that triggered the impulse, giving it a good reaction time. It was dubbed the "Mobile Coffin" by the own EFF because of it's fragility. It was however, very nimble and small enough to avoid most attacks, it was faster than most regular mobile suits at the time, and had a longer range of attack than the Zaku II, all while being cost effective, that's why it was....
