Tourists I love your happiness and I am glad you are having a nice time, but for fuck’s actual sake MOVE
who cares if it's bad, have you seen some of the shit people are reading these days
hugs and solidarity!
Read ‘Convenience Store Woman’ last year and would really recommend it
Covering for half my colleagues and getting snapped at for things I got handed responsibility for approximately 25 minutes ago

[flicking through WIPs] I can lend you some elves or some space guys or some aliens if you need a loan to tide you over?
do you... have a shortage of those? would you like to borrow some? we've got plenty over here, should we do some kind of wildlife reintroduction programme for whatever bit of fandom you're in, anonymous person?
Pinterest (I know) sent me an email titled 'Fan fiction writing tips for you' that was screenshots of lists of tips and one of the first ones was to add more LGBTQ+ male characters because why are all the men straight!, and I've had a little "???" in a thought balloon floating above my head all day.
WHAT. (and I mean that both in the "fucking hell what abysmal behaviour" and the "...you're getting shit from a Young Sheldon blog?" sense)
Tales from fandom days of yore! I'll DM you.
hates me but is a surprisingly big fan of my writing! 🙃
literally every day my wife or I go outside with our daughter people go out of their way to be friendly, offer aid or a kind word, no matter where we've traveled. it's nice to remember that hostility as default mode of interaction is not destiny, much as it benefits some to pretend it is
some things about becoming a parent are radicalizing in ways I expected - e.g being reminded viscerally how screwed we'd all be if childcare and other care work disappeared. but other things are radicalizing in ways I didn't - like experiencing constant spontaneous solidarity in ways big and small
Although! I just went to look at my AO3 stats page and now I have learned there are private bookmarks on my Mon Mothma rarepair smut fics. Godspeed, incognito readers.
(Very pettily: the only stat I do care a bit about is how much it must rankle (redacted) to know that every click of theirs on my story over the past several years has made Number Go Up by 1. :) )
Fanon cannot touch me, nobody’s here for clout and drama, I really enjoy writing here, it’s great. (You do occasionally get a bit of And Here’s Why That’s Problematic from the kind of people who do fandom on PvP mode but they’re like that with everything and can be safely ignored.)
Seconded. Everything I write at the moment is rarepairs, I do not give a fuck about stats and I’m having a great time.
the thing is that sometimes there are cases when the fans are actually right
and it’s still not a good idea to listen to them because then you start listening to them when they aren’t, which is most of the time
Posting tradfash memes on the Orthodoxy subrreddit does not count as attending a religious service
why would care if showrunners, actors etc approve of my ship?
i just like ships from what i see
i dont need confirmation of it being "allowed" or canon
if i like thinking about two blorbos n a complex sexy situationship, thats just my brain doing its thing
i don't audit that shit
I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"
the thing about bluesky is that it sucks but a social media site that doesn't work is still better than twitter
I love him. “ExCUSE me, horse man? WHAT did you just say?”
from Verlyn Flieger’s edition of JRRT’s ‘Aotrou and Itroun’: ‘A witch there was, who webs could weave to snare the heart and wits to reave, who span dark spells with spider-craft, and as she span she softly laughea a arink she brewed oi 30 strength and dread to bind the quick and stir the dead.’
If I get time later on I’ll post more about Tolkien basing Galadriel on figures of evil enchantresses because I’m so fascinated by it. Compare Éomer’s “if you have her favour, then you also are net-weavers and sorcerers” with this, from pre-LOTR ‘Lay of Aotrou and Itroun’:
overtaken them. But there is something strange about you, Strider? He bent his clear bright eyes again upon the Ranger. "That is no name for a Man that you give. And strange too is your raiment. Have you sprung out of the grass? How did you escape our sight? Are you Elvish folk?' 'No, said Aragorn. 'One only of us is an Elf, Legolas from the Woodland Realm in distant Mirkwood. But we have passed through Lothlórien, and the gifts and favour of the Lady go with us? The Rider looked at them with renewed wonder, but his eyes hard-ened. "Then there is a Lady in the Golden Wood, as old tales tell! he said. 'Few escape her nets, they say. These are strange days! But if you have her favour, then you also are net-weavers and sorcerers, maybe? He turned a cold glance suddenly upon Legolas and Gimli. 'Why do you not speak, silent ones?' he demanded. Gimli rose and planted his feet firmly apart: his hand gripped the handle of his axe, and his dark eyes flashed. 'Give me your name, horse-master, and I will give you mine, and more besides, he said. "As for that, said the Rider, staring down at the Dwarf, the stranger should declare himself first. Yet I am named Eomer son of Eomund, and
“greetings, Rohirrim! Yes we are mysterious travellers to your land but fear not! We bring a letter of recommendation from the terrifying forest sorceress of your childhood stories :)”
“I will do this to divine your true intentions and the secrets you carry unspoken, and also to speed things up when the conversation is dragging on a bit.“
CHAPTER VIII FAREWELL TO LÓRIEN That night the Company was again summoned to the chamber of Celeborn, and there the Lord and Lady greeted them with fair words. At length Celeborn spoke of their departure. 'Now is the time,' he said, 'when those who wish to continue the Quest must harden their hearts to leave this land. Those who no longer wish to go forward may remain here, for a while. But whether they stay or go, none can be sure of peace. For we are come now to the edge of doom. Here those who wish may await the oncoming of the hour till either the ways of the world lie open again, or we summon them to the last need of Lórien. Then they may return to their own lands, or else go to the long home of those that fall in battle.' There was a silence. "They all resolved to go forward,' said Galadriel looking in their eyes.
I love how weird and unsettling Lothlórien is even in relatively normal conversations. Celeborn here’s already musing aloud about how he’d use hobbits during a siege, and Galadriel has forgotten how normal conversations work.
there is a beauty in it, you see. I can imagine anything in the void. there are conversations happening behind your wildest dreams in the abyss. what prophecies and heresies do you hear in your chasm?
