It lets him be gay without the plot treating it like a Chekhov's gun. Forcibly creating struggles over a side character's sexuality because it doesn't represent the majority comes off as disingenuous and paints the character as a vehicle to have that discussion rather than a character on its own.

I have to disagree based off personal opinion. I don't feel every gay character has to explore their gayness in a story that they appear in. Flambae feels like a real character who's also just gay and I really think that's cool. Cont.

I honestly really enjoy that aspect. It allows him to be a gay character without being treated like a plot element/token for being gay. On second glance you can definitely see influences but it doesn't consume his character which we see so often in modern media and gay representation.
